Happy Friday!
Hello ALMS Families,
As we approach this much anticipated break, I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits. Please check out the latest happenings around our school. The past week has been quite eventful here at ALMS. We started off with our "Respect for All" spirit week, held a virtual assembly, and witnessed some amazing work centered around Black History Month!
In this newsletter you will find important information about upcoming events and deadlines, as well as highlights from recent school activities as well as news from our faculty and staff. It is also a great opportunity to connect with your child about their school experience and to plan for upcoming weeks.
We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to sharing all the latest news in this week's newsletter.
Have a great mid-winter break!
Sincerely,
Camille Edwards-Thomas
Principal

Teacher Spotlights:
Ms. Bongo's Stamp Project
Students took Historical African American figures and researched their life. They wrote up a bio, highlighting their achievements and accomplishments.
They also created a Stamp of their chosen figure. See below for some incredible highlights of their work with Canva:
Ms. Kaplan's Borrowed Poetry Project
Ms. Kaplan's class studied Martin Luther King Jr. and Langston Hughes, learning about the "I have a Dream" speech and the Poem "Dreams" respectively.
Students took what they learned about dreams and applied it to a project where they borrowed the first part of Langston Hughes' "Dreams" poem and added their own spin on the ending, using Canva.
See below for all of their amazing work!
Debate Team Victory!
ALMS's Debate Team coached by Mrs. Johnson took home the first place cup last Saturday, making it the team's second first place win at the American Debate League competition. The students were promoted to the next level following their last competition and were still able to take home the gold!
The students debated the topic of GMO foods and had to argue both pros and cons. It was another long day for the team but the students were victorious against their competition, bringing home first place sweepstakes trophy, first place individual team trophy, first place individual speaker trophy, and had several placements in the top ten of all categories, bringing home a total of ten medals and three first place trophies.
Their next competition will be in May for the championships and they are awaiting their next topic. Congratulations to the students for their hard work!

Chromebook Responsibilities
To ALMS Parents and Students,
As a Middle School student, you are required to come to school with your district-provided chromebook charged. The district-provided chromebook is also your responsibility; if it's in your backpack, locker, on a bus, or at home, you must keep it protected from being damaged or lost/stolen.
Please refer to the AUP and Device Loaner Form, which you have signed with your parent/guardian, and review the terms and conditions listed on the form both inside and outside of school. If you have not already signed the AUP and/or Loaner Form, please click on the link above.
To all parents/guardians, please speak with your child regarding Chromebook care and responsibilities. Some of the computers are damaged due to students spilling liquids, tossing them to the ground during recess, getting knocked around in a backpack, or dropping them. Damaged Chromebooks are subject to fees. You may want to consider purchasing a case as was indicated on the school supply list.
You can refer to our Acceptable Use Policy and Device Loaner Form (linked above) for the CSDNR policy.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
