February flies so fast. With Early Release next week, you will have most of the day Monday the 18th to prepare for conferences and get ahead on your grading and lesson planning. Remember finish strong. This is such an important part of the school-year enjoy your students and support one another. The admin team will be working hard to complete evaluations over the next several weeks.

Choice Session One - Creating an Action Plan for Readers
This professional development session involves practical advice on how to collect, analyze, and interpret reading data. Participants will investigate various data collection tools, learn how to analyze and interpret the data, and create an action plan for students.
This session is for any teacher of literacy. Please bring any evidence you have been collecting on a struggling reader as well as your computer.
We will meet in the Media Center from 3:15-4:15. I look forward to seeing you there!

February is Black History Month
- Share with students “I, Too, Sing America” by poet Langston Hughes and have a discussion about the poem’s vocabulary, rhythm, and meaning.
- Tour an online exhibit that marked the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark 1954 Supreme Court decision that changed education and helped end segregation in schools.
- Watch Christopher Paul Curtis, a winner of the Newbery Medal, give advice to young authors.
- Teach students about Nelson Mandela, his imprisonment, and the battle to end apartheid in South Africa.
