Eagle Academy Weekly Update
Week of December 1, 2019
Student Achievment
Student of the month: Aiden Hayes!
This week's student of the month is Aiden Hayes! His secret? Hard work, a positive attitude, and perfect attendance for the month of November!
Students of the week are Nik Caruso, Emily Martin, and Blake Adams. Congrats!
One School, One Book
Eagle students are starting a new book this week. One of Us is Lying is the book chosen by the students as part of their One School, One Book reading project. Every student in the building will read the book and discuss it in English class. “They were already hooked by the first page!” says Mrs. Newman.
Spanish Calendar Project
Students in Mrs. Joline’s Spanish class are collaborating to put together a monthly 2020 calendar in Spanish. They are including each student’s birthday and holidays, as well as describing the weather and seasons for their own months. They are realizing how different it looks to begin the week on lunes (Monday) rather than Sunday!
Cold hands, Cold Enzymes
Students in Mr. Langhurst’s science class used a novel technique to study enzyme action in cells. To model how enzymes work in different temperatures, students timed themselves breaking toothpicks at room temperature, then tried it again after numbing their hands in ice water!
Climate and Culture
Goodbye, Ms. Day!
This week Eagle Academy says “goodbye” to Ms. Day, our long-term substitute teacher. Ms. Day filled in after Mr. Meister retired in September and has been a part of the Eagle family these past months. She will continue to pursue her Master’s degree and, hopefully, work as a substitute again in the future. Good luck!
20th Eagle Thanksgiving Dinner
Eagle Academy celebrated its 20th Thanksgiving Dinner last week, with special guests from the board office, as well as former students coming to visit. Students prepared and ate a full spread of holiday favorites..
Community Connection
ACCC Visit
This week our Eagle Seniors were introduced to Atlantic Cape Community College. A representative came to speak with the seniors, and get them started on their education after high school.

Microgreens from AtlantiCare!
Students in the Social Studies and Math classrooms are growing microgreens! Microgreens are tiny sprouts of common vegetables and leafy greens, like Kale, Broccoli, and Arugula. Students will get a chance to eat them on sandwiches and salads, or plain. The grow kits were provided as part of a grant through AtlantiCare.
