1. Call the office for support.
2. Office staff will locate an appropriate support person.
3. The support person will come to you.
4. When the support person arrives, you can share information about the incident(s) and share ideas about how to support you and the student.
5. The support person may: (a) support you and the student by remaining in the classroom; (b) take over teaching so you can process with the student; (c) take the student for processing, calming, consequences, etc.
Reasons for this are: (1) students aren't always trustworthy to make it to the office in a timely manner; (2) students may create chaos on their way to the office; (3) students aren't always knowledgeable or honest about why they were sent to the office; (4) the available support person might not be in the office to receive the student.
Something else that is helpful when requesting support is, please be ready to describe what prior actions, when appropriate, have been taken. Those actions may include verbal warning, time-out in classroom or buddy room, contact with a parent, or other strategy. Thank you for helping with this. I'm hopeful these practices will help keep things calmer and safer.
