High Ability Appeals: Teachers have until the end of the week to indicate via email to FTAssessments@ftcsc.org that they wish to appeal the committee's decision and then they will have until the end of the work day on the 17th to submit any supporting documentation for placement changes.
All appeals must at a MINIMUM include a completed version of the attached appeals form to be considered.
Additionally, due to the recent changes that we have been able to make in the identification process we are asking cluster teachers to identify any clusters students who may find success in a single subject Reach placement.
Basketball Practices--Wednesday's in February after school
Elizabeth Good Scholarship: Elizabeth Good established the fellowship to provide monetary incentive for teachers to pursue graduate study in school administration. Applicants must hold a professional certificate in elementary or secondary education and have five years of teaching experience. The graduate study may be accomplished at the college or university of the recipient’s choice as a part-time or full-time student. Past recipients are eligible for funding and may re-apply for consideration.

No AM Meeting February 18th - Grade Levels will meet with me during RA time for mini-lesson PD. I will share out our district-wide mini lesson bank at this time, and we will dive into how to use the comprehension modules to help make our whole group mini lessons.
Mini-Lessons Reminder:
Mini-Lessons really need to contain those gradual release components, I do-We do-You do, to really help prepare students to apply their skills successfully on their own. Read HERE for more information on how this looks in the classroom.
- Reference the videos in the Scholastic website for each module in order to see how Jan uses these modules to teach mini lessons and guided reading lessons. They are very short but extremely helpful when planning your lessons. They contain a lot of great information and ideas for effective instruction. www.scholastic.com/NSFresources Password: results
Many classrooms are still struggling to achieve classroom participation with the reading logs. Please look at the above spreadsheet to see how your class is faring compared to your colleagues. Encourage your class with various incentives. The more excited and passionate you are about this program, the more engaged and excited your students will be. Please let them know that this figures into their citizenship grade and that the school as a whole will not get to the million minute mark and win a school wide party unless we all work together.
Counselor Corner
I've started groups this week and many will start next week. My goal this half of the year with groups is to send home parents information on what we learned and how they can continue practice at home. If you want a copy of what the students learned in group I can also send you a copy!
Conscious Discipline
S/O to Katie Reynolds for creating a better version of the "story hand" that I linked last week. It can be found in the Acton Conscious Discipline files as well.I love this week's conscious commitment! Not only is it something that we as adults can practice, but it is something I also want to instill in our students.

FTCSC Hedgehog Focus
The Hedgehog Concept is based on an ancient Greek parable that states, "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." ... Hedgehogs, however, simplify the world and focus on a single, overarching vision, which they then achieve.
