Dear FSS Staff,
Also, isn't it nice to have BTSN behind us? That was a lovely evening. Your rooms look beautiful and families were so glad to be here. The district shared with us that board members and DO "fancy pants" would not be attending BTSN's this year. This was a nice change that kept our anxiety a bit lower. The evening was about families meeting teachers, I liked that focus.
Thank you for setting the procedure early for hall passes. We have seen every child in the halls using a pass. Well done! Nydia will reprint the "Where are we? "signs for your door next week. Those are so helpful in knowing where you are when you are away. Too many schedules to keep up with.
Remember to post your schedule (Big Rocks) on your white board. I see many of you using them as lists that you check off each day. What a great idea.
Sorry about not having Wednesday Envelopes for you this year. We did not order them, but you all seem to have found a new plan. Thanks!
How is assessing going? Lexia, Dreambox, STAR, Express/Adept... the intervention Tracks Team is making their way around to each class. They are BPSTing for a first go around. As we become more familiar with Fountas and Pinnell assessments we will see how we can test all kids. This will give you a lexile so you can grab guided reading books from the library for small groups.
Next Wednesday, the Write Coaches will meet with their assigned grade levels to go over the website and get us started. Be sure to sign in to the website sent to you from the Write Institute. I have attached the video from last week to review one more time.
I have also attached the video of Restorative Justice Practices. We will model these for you on 9/7. Zorayda and I would love to come and model one with your class during your family meeting, just email us a day and time.
Williams practice walk through on Monday and the real thing on Friday. Please have all TE's and text books visible and ready to be counted.
We need to be very intentional on a few things. I have see this week StarFall reading and Prodigy. Though I know these are fun, engaging and probably high quality programs, they are not district supported nor do they track progress or give us instructional feedback. We should be using Dreambox, Lexia and AR exclusively. I believe all programs are up and running now.
Next week is a good week to slowly start increasing the academic rigor blended with procedures and classroom culture. Please post ELA, Math, ELD and Writing standards in a central location. We are still posting standards, objectives, necessary process charts and begin thinking about how you can pose an essential question. I have attached some samples for ideas.
Warmly,
Stephenie
