Lee Westwood Golf
Success in School...Success in Life
Student to .............................. PGA Professional
Ben Wall completed the two year course at the Lee Westwood Golf School in Essex. After leaving the school Ben started to play full-time amateur golf whilst working in the evenings. In his first year, Ben won numerous regional events in his home county of Hampshire whilst also finishing in the top 10 of multiple national competitions.
Ben went on to play on a professional tour in Spain. Playing in 5 events Ben managed to finish as the top amateur in 4 of these 5 events.
This year Ben turned professional from a handicap of +3.5 and has started his PGA training at Tournebury Golf Centre under head coach Kevin Flynn who was voted in the top 50 PGA coaches in Britain and also as the PGA south region coach of the year. Ben has already had his first professional win and is now looking to carry on playing full time.
Student to .............................. Playing on Tour
Our Full Time Education & Golf Programme graduate Jack Yule is now a member of the England A squad. Jack had a great season playing events in Europe and Asia and had a taste of life on the European Tour recently with a start in the Made in Denmark event.
Jack performed creditably with rounds of 75 and 72. Unfortunately, Jack missed the cut on this occasion by 4 strokes, but could be comforted by the fact that he beat some well-known players such as Michael Hoey, Johan Edfors, Eddie Pepperell, and managed to return the same score as Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn.
Jack is looking forward to next season and continuing to develop the skills that he learned whilst with us, progressing towards his ultimate goal of making a living on tour.
Student to .............................. Sport Management
Our Full Time Golf & Education graduate Tom Vyce, who completed our 2 year BTEC programme last summer is now studying at Bournemouth University for a Degree in Sport Management (Golf) .
A D*D*D* student (the highest BTEC grade possible, equivalent to 3 A* at A level), Tom was a regular choice to represent the school team in various national competition finals, and was School Matchplay Champion in 2015. He also finished his second year at the school as the overall Order of Merit winner as well as producing the best scores for short game skills testing. He left the school with a handicap of 2.
His excellent education results earned him an unconditional scholarship place at Bournemouth University, where he is currently studying. After graduating from Bournemouth, he plans to work in the golf industry either playing or golf club management.
We wish Tom all the best and will continue to stay in touch as his career develops.
Student to .............................. Studying in Florida
Our past Golf Performance Programme students Lucy Eaton and Alistair Thurlow doing well at Florida Tech University, since graduating.
"Florida is great. It's pretty busy! Workouts first thing in a morning, then class all morning, and then golf practice all afternoon!
We're currently in the off season so no tournaments and not much practice but from August through until the end of October was very busy; tournaments every other week.
Me and Ali still workout and practice together so it's like being back at Westwood!"- Lucy Eaton
Merry Christmas
P.s. And a prosperous 2016 golfing season!
