October 2018
A Message from the Principal
Can you believe we are already in the month of October? Boy, time flies when you're having fun! We are seeing some amazing things happening on The SCES Energy Bus since our kick-off pep rally! We are honored that our school is a part of this wonderful journey!
Last month, we introduced Principle #1 "You're the Driver of Your Bus". We talked to our students about the importance of taking 100% responsibility for their actions, results, and their lives. Understanding that YOU are the DRIVER gives you the opportunity to create the life of your dreams, it also gives you the power to make choices and decisions that will lead you to desired outcomes.
As we prepare to create a positive vision, everyone should sit in the driver's seat of their bus and think about where they want to go. In the book, The Energy Bus for Kids by Jon Gordon, Joy told George "...if you can see it, you can create it. If you have a vision, then you also have the power to make it happen."
We all possess these SUPER powers to invite positive things in our world, but we must first create it in our minds.
During the month of October, we want to challenge our students to create goals - personal, academic, or both. After all, this month we will conclude with our first quarter of the school year and parent-teacher /student-led conferences will be taking place.
You can definitely support and facilitate, but this does not mean that you (the teacher or parent) do it for them. Our students are eager to learn ways they can take responsibility and we want to give them opportunities to practice this important skill.
Buckle up and let's enjoy the ride together!
Sending lots of positive energy your way for an amazing month!
Mrs. Meyer

Read Your Way to the Big Game
A child's ability to read is a critical predictor of educational and lifelong success. Help establish a strong literacy foundation for your child and support South Carolina & Clemson's championship traditions by participating in the South Carolina Department of Education's Read Your Way to the Big Game Contest!
All pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students who read six books will qualify to win tickets to the Clemson vs. South Carolina football game on November 24. Once students have completed their readings, they should turn in the list of books read to their teacher. Winners will receive four tickets and pre-game sideline passes to the Clemson vs. South Carolina game!

Morning Drop-off Procedures
- 1. Kindergarten and 1st grade students (and older siblings) drop-off at the back of the school (Kindergarten line); while 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders drop-off at the front of the school. This allows for a more even number of drop-offs at both places.
- 2. Please pull all the way forward when dropping-off students at the front of the school. This keeps the car line moving and affords for more cars to unload at one time. We have two entrances (200 and 300 wings) in which students can enter to safely get into the building and move to their classrooms.
We certainly appreciate your understanding and cooperation when it comes to following these procedures.
Bus Transportation Regulations & Safety Information
Reminders
*All afternoon transportation changes must be communicated to the front office by 11:00 am. Please reference the Student Handbook for further information.
*Please remember the South Carolina Compulsory Attendance Laws and Regulations in regards to the number of minutes students must attend school each day. Every minute that a student is not in class is counted and reported to the state. If a student misses even 15 minutes of class, this adds up to over an hour of class each week. Please make every minute count for learning!
