Principal's Message
Happy Friday Bobcat Families,
We had a lovely week in Bobcat Country! It was such fun to end the week on a high note with our Advocacy Day. Please remember there is no school for students on Monday, February 20th due to district wide professional development. We have some exciting activities coming soon before the month ends so continue to monitor happenings via our school newsletter and classroom newsletters.
I hope you all have a great weekend!

Congratulations Ms. K!
Kimberli (Ms. K) Anderson, Kindergarten Instructional Assistant, was selected to represent AC Moore as the Classified Employee of the Year during the 2023-2024 school year! Ms. K has been with the Bobcat family for 7 years. Prior to working with kindergarten she was an instructional assistant in the Special Education department here at AC Moore. Ms. K was previously selected as Classified Employee of the Year in 2017.
Ms. K is often complimented on her the patience, creativity, and genuine admiration she has for her class, and the many other students at AC Moore. "This is easy to do when you genuinely love where and with whom you work", says Kimberli. Ms. K completed her Associates Degree in Early Childcare Education and will soon graduate with her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. She enjoys singing, reading, adult coloring books and spending time with her nephews.

Black Resistance: The Value of Education
Source: National Museum of African-American History and Culture
Whether enslaved or free, African Americans—like so many Americans—viewed education as the key to changing their status. Communities banded together to build and support public schools. When acquiring an education was illegal, African Americans labored together and alongside white abolitionists to establish institutions of higher learning.
After the Civil War, the government laid the foundation for public education for all citizens. However, the end of Reconstruction hastened a return to localized control of segregated school systems in the South; thus Reconstruction's initial progress was soon halted. In 1896, Plessy v. Ferguson solidified the practice of “separate but equal” education. Separate public education for African Americans was limited to elementary schools, which often possessed inadequate facilities. These schools also received fewer and inferior resources, including used, outdated books and audio visuals. Despite these and other obstacles, African Americans sought education—from basic reading and writing to advanced intellectual pursuits—and established colleges and universities to ensure a stellar legacy of achievement.

Need to Report an Absence for your Student? Click Below
Assignments for COVID Related Absences
For the 22-23 school year, students that are absent due to illness will receive any missed and/or make-up assignments upon return to school. They will have 5 days to return the completed work to their teacher. This is in accordance with AC Moore's typical absence policy. Devices and extended absence assignments will not be sent home this year. Virtual check-in sessions with students will also not occur. Those practices and procedures were in place as a result of Richland One's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bobcat Families--Please note that the neighbors directly across from the front of the school are having difficulties getting their trash picked up when vehicles are parked in front of their homes and along the edge of their yard. Your courtesy and consideration would be greatly appreciated in addressing their concerns. When visiting the school, please park in the visitors parking area at the corner of Etiwan Avenue and Rosewood Drive and along the street in designated parking spaces.
Important Carline Pick-up and Drop-off Reminders
In an effort to keep the carline safe for students and staff, it is requested that the following carline procedures be followed during the morning and afternoon carline.
- Please pull as far forward to the end of the carline (towards Rosewood Dr.) before stopping your vehicle to allow your student to enter/exit through the gate; do not stop at the main entrance to let students out of or into the car.
- Students are to get out on the passenger side of the carline only, not from the driver side, side facing the road.
- Parents should remain in the car and allow school staff to assist the students into or out of cars.
