Keeping HIST 2111 Students "in the know!"
Check here for the lastest news and pertinent information!
This course is a full one and the schedule is tight. Please make sure you stay "current" with your assignments and reading. Midterm and the week before the final are particularly busy. It's not a good idea to get behind!
Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine was a recent immigrant from England and the author of Common Sense, a pamphlet that sold tens of thousands of copies and was a big reason the Revolution got as much support from the colonists as it did.
Sam Adams
Sam Adams was the "man behind the scenes" in sparking the Revolution. He established the Committees of Correspondence and the Sons of Liberty groups that played a grassroots role in getting support for the war throughout the colonies. (He was also the cousin of John Adams.)
Paul Revere
Paul Revere was Boston silversmith who is credited with the "midnight ride." He actually rode with William Dawes through the countryside and they didn't actually yell, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" because the colonists believed they were all British citizens and would not have made a distinction between the British soldiers and themselves.
Look at the Announcements Daily!
Make sure to read the announcements daily. I will add new video clips at least once a week and sometimes more often than that for your viewing pleasure and "enlightenment!"
Committees of Correspondence and Sons of Liberty (and Daughters of Liberty too!)
The Committees of Correspondence were groups of people who wrote letters to friends and relatives in support of the Revolution. The Sons of Liberty (and Daughters too) were groups who met in taverns in secret to map out plans for the rebellion. Sam Adams and the Sons of Liberty were responsible for the Boston Tea Party. Sam Adams later served as Massachusetts governor.
