News from this week
Dear Parents,
Reminder: School on Monday will be 1 hour longer so we can watch the solar eclipse. Dismissal will start at 3:45. If you plan on checking out your child, please do so before 2:00. It is counted as a full day as long as your child is here until 11:15.
It has been another wonderful week in 4th grade. The students are settling into our regular routines.
The reading logs that I sent home today are not due until Monday, August 28th. Each student is required to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each night. Please be sure to sign the reading log before returning it to school. Reading logs can be submitted electronically through the media center link on the Gwin Oaks home page. If you choose to send the reading log electronically please make sure to send me an e-mail to let me know as I do not see that list until Wednesday. We have approximately 3 daily grades on the sight words per month. Students are shown a word spelled 4 different ways. They are required to circle the word spelled correctly. I will never dictate the words and expect the students to write them from memory.
Please refer to important dates for all assessments. I will send home study guides as we complete our units. There is a “Place Value” study guide for math on my e-class page if you would like a sneak peek. In order to access it, go to my e-class page and click on the desk (Content). Then select Math.
There have been some questions about the sight word homework. Sight word homework is sent home every Monday and is not due until Friday. I also have students copy down their homework for the week every Monday Morning. I may have them add/change an item from time to time. I know many students have after school activities, so I feel this gives them a chance to work ahead if they need to.
If you have not yet signed up for Remind, please make sure to do so. This is a great way for me to easily send out important information about our class, including the class newsletter. You can text the code: @stoffle to the number 81010.
The students are very excited about the eclipse on Monday. We will have a special lesson about the solar eclipse and we will practice using the special glasses Monday morning. Please emphasize to your child the importance of keeping the glasses on at all times while they are watching the eclipse. The students will be supervised, but I do not want anyone to be tempted to take off their glasses when it is not safe. The students who did not return forms will all watch the eclipse together on TV.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
Have a great weekend!
