CC Mason IB World School Welcomes, Amanda King, Counselor!

We are thrilled to announce the newest addition to the Mustang Family! Mrs. Amanda King will join Mustang Nation on Tuesday, 10/18! Mrs. King most recently served as a counseling intern for Charlotte Ann Cox Elementary in Leander ISD. Prior to serving as counseling intern, Mrs. King served as a substitute teacher, instructional assistant and taught Spanish in AISD.

Mrs. King's passion for making mental health a priority for both children and adults coupled with her desire to collaborate with others makes her an incredible addition to the Mustang Nation community.

We want to thank Heather Mossell for serving our Mustang community in the interim. Heather will continue to support Mason as Amanda makes the transition. Please join me in welcoming, Mrs. Amanda King and sharing gratitude for Ms. Heather Mossell.

My name is Amanda King and I am thrilled to be joining CC Mason IB World School! I received my Bachelors of Arts from the University of Texas at Austin and I am currently completing my Master’s degree in School Counseling at the University of Texas at Tyler. My career in education has included working as a classroom teacher, substitute, and instructional assistant.

My husband, Jason, and I have two sons, Jackson and Samuel, along with a very talkative parakeet. We are proud to call Cedar Park home and can’t imagine life anywhere else! In my free time, I love being active outdoors, reading, and traveling with my family.

I am passionate about helping others cultivate skills that promote mental well-being. My counseling philosophy is student-centered and solution focused. I believe that a comprehensive school counseling program addresses the whole child, supporting each student academically, socially and emotionally. It is my priority to partner with parents, teachers, and administration to ensure student success in and out of the classroom.

Proposition A and B Elections

The ballot for this November’s federal, state, and local elections will include two propositions related to Leander ISD.

Proposition A is an Attendance Credit Election. Due to an increase in the level of property values per student in Leander ISD, the state is removing about $31.2 million from our district through the process known as recapture, or Robin Hood. If LISD voters approve Proposition A, the district will make its required recapture payment to the state. If Proposition A fails, the state will look for other ways to remove revenue from LISD. For example, the state could force some taxpayers in our district to start paying taxes to a different district instead of LISD.

Proposition B is a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election. By approving Proposition B, voters would ratify the tax rate set by the LISD Board of Trustees — a rate that is 6.24 cents lower than last year’s rate. Due to rising property values, the average tax payment would be about $38 per month higher than the average payment last year under Proposition B. Passage of Proposition B would generate an additional $32 million for academics in LISD, including teacher pay and the continuity of programs.

For much more information about these propositions, please visit LeanderISD.org/elections. You can also sign up for informational text-message updates by texting @LISDMoney to 81010. You can also text-message your questions to 512-399-0068.

Mason hosting Prop A/B Informational Night: 10/18 at 6:30 pm

Leander ISD Propositions A and B will be on the November ballot and Mason Elementary is hosting a district information session on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:30pm to provide background and answer any questions you might have. These are important propositions and they can be confusing, so please consider attending if you want more information.

Let's Learn with Bruce: Elections

In an effort to create educational awareness about the November ballot, Leander ISD is hosting a series of conversations. Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Ed.D., will lead a discussion about Propositions A & B over the next several weeks ahead of the November 8 election.

Due to sizable recent increases in property appraisals across our region, the district’s property values have reached a point that has triggered two elections: an Attendance Credit Election (ACE) and a Voter-Approval Tax Rate Election (VATRE).

We encourage the community at-large to learn more about these ballot issues during the following opportunities:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 19 – 6:30pm, Facebook LIVE

  • Friday, Oct. 21 – 12pm at LISD LEO Conference Center

  • Wednesday, Oct. 26 – 6:30pm, virtual Zoom webinar (link coming soon)

Please use this link Let’s Learn with Bruce: Elections to let us know you’re attending. While sign-up is not required, it helps us plan for how many participants to expect.

We have provided a number of Prop A & B resources as well as voting information.

PTA Clothes Closet

The Leander ISD Council of PTAs Clothes Closet is owned and operated by the Leander ISD Council of PTAs and community volunteers. The purpose of the Clothes Closet is to provide gently-used school clothing and brand-new underwear and socks to our students residing in our school district. We have clothing for grades pre-K through the SELF 18+ Program (sizes 3T-4X for all genders). The only qualification for families to shop at the Clothes Closet is that their student reside within the Leander ISD boundaries. Our program has no income requirements and no vouchers are required. Important Information

Counselor Needs Assessment

At the beginning of the year, it is best practice to engage in a counselor needs assessment. The informal assessment is a tool used for parents and staff to communicate individual needs of our students so that we know how to best support our community. The results of this assessment may be used to form lunch bunches, provide individual support, or open lines of communication so that parents feel they can partner with the school. If you feel your child needs any additional support from our school counselor, please take a moment to complete this form. If you have any questions, contact Heather.Mossell@leanderisd.org.

Food Program @ Mason

Mason has a food program for families! For interested families, weekend meal kits are sent home each Friday with students in bags the student can put in their backpacks. You can select weekend meal kits, snacks, or both. Please complete just one form for the family if you have multiple students at Mason, but please list all of their names on the form. Feel free to reach out to me if you have questions or concerns! Heather.Mossell@leanderisd.org
