Creating Critical Thinkers
Engaging Students in Critical Thinking Skills Grade K-5
"Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve." - Roger Lewin
All levels of educators have realized for some time that there is much more to instruction and assessment than simply teaching content. The skills of critical thinking and problem solving are valued just as much as content knowledge in today's expectations. During this session, we will examine the components of critical thinking, the vital role of effective feedback, and how thoughtful questioning contributes to creating quality critical thinkers.
Participants will:
- Understand what critical thinking is and isn’t in the K-5 classroom.
- Examine the critical thinking process needed for student success in the classroom and on standardized tests.
- Explore strategies that contribute to creating critical thinkers.
- Investigate types of student feedback that support critical thinking skills.
- Develop a plan for classroom implementation.
