Halloween
Fun and Friendly Costumes Please!
Halloween is coming soon. It’s time to think about your costumes. For our school parade and party please wear only fun and friendly costumes. Fun and friendly excludes blood, gore, scary/frightening masks or clothing, and weapons. If anyone has questions concerning the appropriateness of a costume, please contact the office. Thank you for keeping things on the fun and light side!
Parade and Parties
Please do not have your child wear their costume to school. There will be time to change before the parade. The parade will begin at 2:00 (please update your calendar as this is a Wednesday so we have moved the party up due to the earlier dismissal) in the hallway by the kindergarten rooms. It will progress into the west hallway and up to the lobby. Weather permitting, the students will go out the west doors, around the north side of the building and come back in the main entrance, then back down the east hallway. If it’s raining, the parade will go through the gym. Parties in the classroom will follow the parade.
Food Safety
Please remember to follow the District Approved Snack List. Linked is the lists of what to bring for parties or birthdays. Thanks for helping to make Rockbrook a caring community for all of our students. We hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!

Book Fair - October 15th through th 17th
The Rockbrook Book Fair is back during Parent-Teacher Conferences! Our Fall Book Fair will be in the Art & Multi-Purpose Room when you come to see your child's teacher. Book fair hours will be M 10/15 3:30-8:00pm, T 10/16 8:00-4:00pm, W 10/17 3:00-8:00pm, Th 10/18 8:00-10:00am.
Books are a great way to reward your young scholar for their hard work in the first quarter of school.
Also at the book fair is your chance to donate back to your child’s classroom. Teachers’ wish lists for their class will be available for families wishing to buy. Donated books are marked with a special sticker noting who donated, a fun way to remember past students years later.
A third opportunity will be our “Books for All” donations. Donate funds for this to help purchase even more books for our school, including our spring Read-A-Thon.
Purchasing books all three ways helps to earn scholastic bucks that will be used to supply our school library and the Read-A- Thon which helps raise money for projects around our school.
We look forward to seeing you at the Book Fair!

Lunch Times
Joining your child for lunch is a fun and enjoyable tradition that Rockbrook is pleased to support when your schedule allows. For this purpose we have designated a guest table during our lunch period where you and your child can share a meal and each other’s company. To ensure that there is enough space for our out-of-school guests we ask that families eat with their own children only. When room allows, guests may also sit at the regular lunch table with the class. If you would like a school lunch, please make your reservation with the office before 9 a.m.
Lunch Times
K-1 Lunch: 11:35-12:00 (11:24-11:48 on Wednesdays)
2-3 Lunch: 12:00-12:25 (11:48-12:12 on Wednesdays)
4-5 Lunch: 12:25-12:50 (12:12-12:36 on Wednesdays)
6 Lunch: 12:50-1:15 (12:36-1:00 on Wednesdays)
Counselor's Corner
As your school counselor, I am also a contact person for several community programs that may be of interest to you. Please note that the following programs are in place again this year:
- Children’s Behavioral Health is a resource for families whose child attends a Westside School. Children’s recognizes the benefits of treating not just the child and adolescent, but their families as well. Two visits are part of the Westside/Children’s contract and are at no expense to the family.
- Westside Clothing Closet is a resource to help families (adults and children) with clothing needs year-round.
- Westside Coat Closet is another resource that can provide a professionally cleaned, gently used jacket or coat to children. Some coats are also available for adults. The Coat Closet is open year-round.
- The Omaha Food Bank offers The Backpack Program to students at our school. The Backpack Program provides ingredients for healthy meals for children for the weekend. The food is delivered to the school for children to bring home in a bag on Fridays and have for the weekend.
- District Food Pantry is a resource for families in need of food during the school year and summer.
- Holiday Assistance During the winter holiday season there will be more opportunities for assistance. We have several organizations that help district families during the Holiday season.
I encourage you to contact me if you are interested in these services, or with any questions.

Dining Out for Education
Our next Dining Out Event is Don & Millies, October 17th.
PBIS - Positive Behaviors In School
Our School Improvement goal at Rockbrook continues to be to increase student engagement and achievement through Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports for social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs. We’re off to a great start and teachers recently completed our Fall Universal Screen. Three times throughout the year, teachers sit down to proactively think about each and every child at our school, discuss, and plan if students’ needs are being met through current classroom and school-wide efforts as well as additional support they may already be provided.
Parent input and partnership in supporting kids is a critical part of this process. As part of Parent- Teacher Conferences and during our 2nd quarter, teachers may reach out to families for dialogue about how best to support them at school. If, as a parent, you have any concerns, be sure to communicate with your child’s teacher so we can work together to see every child be successful.
When Is My Child Too Sick for School?

- I haven't taken any fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours and I haven't had a fever during that time.
- I haven't thrown up or had any diarrhea for 24 hours
Keep me at home if...
- I have a temperature higher than 100 degrees even after taking medicine.
- I'm throwing up or have diarrhea.
- My eyes are pink and crusty.
Call the doctor if...
- I have a temperature higher than 100 degrees for more than two days.
- I have been throwing up or have diarrhea for more than two days
- I have the sniffles for more than a week and they aren't getting better.

Dropping Off Your Child? Please Bring Them In & Sign Them In
Who Ya Gonna Call?
Please remember to call the school office at 390-6475 before 9:00 a.m. if:
- Your child will be absent from school for any reason.
- Your child will be late for school
- You would like to join your child for lunch and need to order a tray for yourself (orders need to be received before 9:00 a.m.)
Often times parents will tell the teacher when their children are going to be gone, but sometimes the teacher is gone as well. The office really needs to know. We would appreciate your help with this anytime you know your child will be out of school.
Also, please let the office know if you are going to be out of town and someone else will be taking care of your children. In the case of an emergency, we want to reach someone as soon as possible.
