A MESSAGE FROM HEALTH SERVICES
Cold and flu season is upon us. This year the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) are both warning of high incidence for influenza, strep, RSV, and other viral/bacterial infections. Here are some preventive reminders to stop the spread of germs and help keep your family healthy:
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Ask your children to wear proper outdoor clothing for anticipated weather.
Drink lots of fluids (especially water).
Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap. Use hand sanitizer if soap is not available.
Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when sneezing, then throw used tissues in the trash after use, and wash hands.
If your child has been ill, please consider the following guidelines before sending them back to school.
Wait until your child has gone 24 hours without vomiting or running a fever (100 degrees or above) without the aid of medication, before sending them back to school.
If your student is being treated with antibiotics for a contagious disease (such as strep throat), the student may return 24 hours after the initial dose has been administered.
If your child tests positive for influenza, stay home for five days following onset of symptoms or until fever free for 24 hours- whichever is longer- see complete Kansas requirements: https://www.kdhe.ks.gov/documentcenter/view/14427.
If you have questions, feel free to contact your school nurse. We appreciate your cooperation and communication.
