Big picture

Dear WCHE Parents and Families,

It is with great pleasure that I extend a warm welcome to all of our new and returning families to West Cypress Hills Elementary School! There are so many reasons to celebrate our school, and it starts with your being a part of this magnificent community. West Cypress Hills Elementary is a learning community where every learner is nurtured, respected, and challenged. Here at WCHE we believe learning should be a social, inspiring journey full of dynamic experiences that build the love of life-long learning in all of our students. This year we will continue to explore all of the ways West Cypress teachers build personal, inspiring and authentic educational experiences for our learners.

I am thrilled that you have chosen West Cypress Hills Elementary as your child’s school. Our staff is highly-qualified, hard-working, and dedicated to growing strong learners and leaders here on our campus. We deeply appreciate your sharing your wonderful children with us here at WCHE. We treasure the opportunity to learn and grow together with our WCHE families.

And, we look forward to roaring into year 6! Go Tigers!

With warmest regards,

Principal Melanie Beninga

Meet the Teacher

Safety is our top priority as we welcome all of our new and returning Tigers. If you plan on walking your child into school on the first day of school and want to avoid the long line to obtain a security badge, you have several options.

When you meet your teacher, she/he will have wristbands to hand out to parents who plan on walking their student in on the first day of school. Please show your wristband to the staff member welcoming our Tigers at the front doors as you enter.

If you are unable to come to Meet the teacher day and your photo ID has already been scanned into our security system, you can RSVP and have your badge waiting at the front entrance. Meet the teacher day is the perfect opportunity for our new Tiger families to scan their photo IDs/drivers' licenses at the front desk. If you haven't already done so, this allows you quick and easy check ins at the kiosk when you visit or volunteer at WCHE in the future. Be sure to tell the Receptionist that you want your ID scanned in as "visitor" and as a "volunteer."

Teacher Placement Emails

Teacher placement emails are being sent out this evening. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we are navigating a new information system.

Please know that requests for classroom changes will not be considered. All of our classrooms are at capacity and a move for your child results in displacing another child. Thank you in advance for your support with this.

Meet the Teacher Day is August 13!

West Cypress Hills Elementary cordially invites you to our Meet the Teacher Day! We have set aside Tuesday, August 13, so that you can bring your 2019-2020 Tigers to school to meet their new teachers, see where their classrooms are located, and store away school supplies. During our Meet the Teacher Day, there will be opportunities to purchase Tiger Spirit Wear, join the PTO, and speak with staff from our Food and Nutrition Services (cafeteria.)

We will have available for pick up/purchase at the front desk:

  • Car rider car tags (1st car tag is free, additional available @ $1 each
  • Planners for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders @ $6 each

We accept payment by cash or checks payable to WCHE. Exact change is GREATLY appreciated.

The LTISD Transportation Team will join us for the afternoon sessions. Due to a scheduling conflict, they are not available for the Kindergarten meetings the morning of August 13. Instead, the Transportation Team attended our new-to-WCHE parents' orientation sessions that were held on August 8.

In advance of our Meet the Teacher Day, you were sent an email providing the name of your Tiger's homeroom teacher. The email was sent to you Monday, August 12, around 4:00 pm. The Kindergarten teachers provided in that email the time they would like for you to arrive on Meet the Teacher Day, and that time will be some time between 9 and 11 am.

Our Meet the Teacher Day Schedule is:

Kindergarten: Your Scheduled Arrival Time will be included in your August 12 email and will be some time between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

12:30 pm until 1:15 pm................1st Grade and 3rd Grade

1:30 pm until 2:15 pm.................2nd Grade and 4th Grade

2:30 pm until 3:15 pm..................5th Grade

Coffee with Mrs. Beninga and the WCHE PTO, August 14

Please join Mrs. Beninga and the West Cypress Hills PTO for coffee the first day of school. The Tigers' First Day Coffee will be in the school Library from 8 am until 9 am.

New to West Cypress Hills?

Thank you to all of our new Tiger families who participated in our Parent Orientation. We very much appreciate your feedback. If you were unable to attend, here is a link to the information provided during the sessions.

Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or concerns.

A special request from our neighbors....

....our neighbors ask that we be careful NOT to park on the Cypress Ranch Boulevard median. It is a water quality median and is lined with sprinklers. The neighborhood uses their resources to landscape the median and to keep it watered.

Vehicles driving and/or parking on the median break the sprinkler heads.

Let's be good neighbors and park only in the school's parking lots, and, if the lots are full, park on the street next to the curb. Thank you!
