Rabies can be found in the saliva of mammals. If found, do not approach! Report to the local police immediately!

MOST COMMON VICTIMS:

The virus can affect humans of any age. It can also affect any animals (though mostly mammals).

HOW THE VIRUS ATTACKS AND SPREADS:

The rabies virus spreads from the saliva of other animals infected with it. Whenever an animal or human is bitten by an infected animal, the deadly virus spreads. It can also, in rare cases, spread from an animal into an open wound on a human.

MOST COMMON INJURY VIRUS INFLICTED:

The most common injury caused by rabies is death. The virus is almost always fatal without treatment.

MOST EFFECTIVE WEAPONS AGAINST VIRUS:

BEFORE BITTEN:

Avoid wild animals

Help ensure your pets don't receive the virus by giving them a rabies vaccination, watching them while outside and keep your small pets from predators.

If you are traveling for a long period of time out of the country where you have a chance of getting bit, consider receiving a rabies vaccine.

AFTER BITTEN:

A series of shots should be received if bit to increase the chances of survival. There isn't a direct cure for rabies, making it extremely fatal.
