A Message from the Principal
Dear FHS Families & Students,
This week we celebrate Homecoming Week. This is a chance to recognize all of the activities and athletics that our students participate in. Last week, Mr. Jordan Hein, our Director of Athletics and Activities shared with our Board of Education the accomplishments of our students and the positive correlations between participation in activities and athletics and higher grades and better school attendance. We hope every one of our students tries and finds something to do from the myriad options we have. Please join us in celebrating Homecoming this week and thank you for supporting our students, advisors, coaches, and staff.
In addition to all the great Homecoming offerings, I also want to shine the spotlight in this newsletter on some recent student accolades and I invite you to read about those below. Congratulations to our students that have been named as National Merit Semifinalists and College Board Recognition Award winners. Please join me in sharing in the excitement for them being recognized for their efforts.
With Saber Pride,
Mr. Vuolo
Franklin High School is “Saber Proud” to share that two FHS students, Suha Afzar & Michal Czaja, are among the 16,000 Semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
COLLEGE BOARD NATIONAL RECOGNITION PROGRAM AWARDEES
Franklin High School Students Mya Ayala & Ryan Withers have been selected as College Board national Recognition Program awardees.
- Ryan is being recognized for the National African American Recognition Award.
- Mya is being recognized for the National Hispanic Recognition Award.
Both have earned this recognition by excelling on their PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, AP Exams, and in their classrooms. Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams. Eligible students are invited to apply during their sophomore or junior year, and are awarded at the beginning of the next school year. We are “Saber Proud” of these students! Congratulations!
