Online global collaboration in education - August 2019

Flat Connections is ready to collaborate!
Just a reminder that Flat Connections global projects start up again soon and we are looking forward to another great semester of student and teacher collaboration.
This semester (September-December 2019) we are offering THREE online global projects. The following provide opportunities for students in Grades 3-12 to participate in global collaboration:
Plan NOW to participate. Full timeline and project details shared below. For those joining us again, we have made some changes to foster more student interaction and intercultural understanding.
Please note, the Flat Connections website is under renovation. ALL applications must go through this ONLINE FORM.

Important message
ALL global projects this semester will run with the same timeline:
- September 9 - Project registration deadline
- Week of September 9 - Teacher online meeting
- September 9-October 7 - Project preparation for collaboration - Digital handshakes and introductions
- October 7-December 6 - Global collaboration
- Week of December 9 - Project closing and farewell
Schools and educators planning to join us note we have allocated one month for:
- class introductions
- settling into the project
- teacher PD on tools and processes used for collaboration.
This is in response to feedback from past semesters where classrooms have not had enough time to connect in person and for students to build empathy with partners ready to collaborate.

Windows to the World - Grades 3-6
Registration by September 9
Digital handshakes and introductions until October 7
Global collaboration through until December
Final farewells and project showcase the week of December 9
Windows to the World is an 'Intercultural Penpals' project where students in Grade/Year 3-6 write, respond, communicate, and develop online learning and digital citizenship skills. Teams are formed across different schools and countries. Tools used for collaboration include FlipGrid, Padlet and Google slides. Outcomes include project showcases and real-time Student Summits.

Endangered Animals - Grades 3-6
Registration by September 9
Digital handshakes and introductions until October 7
Global collaboration through until December
Final farewells and project showcase the week of December 9
Students in Grade/Year 3-6 explore the global issue of endangered animals and foster meaningful discussion with others. Outcomes will include student-driven solutions shared through the creative use of technology.

Global Youth Debates - Grades 5-12
Registration by September 9

Global collaboration through until December
Final farewells and project showcase the week of December 9A global collaborative project created around research and formal debating that uses Web 2.0 tools to join students from diverse cultures for authentic debate. Students in Grade/Year 5-12 debate on a global issue that will bring together diverse ideas, develop transferable skills and create lasting friendships.
About Flat Connections Subscriptions.....
Access to Flat Connections global projects is via subscription. There are four main subscription levels - Teacherpreneur, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Don't forget the subscription details are in Australian dollars! (check your conversion with http://xe.com)

Which subscription is best for you and your classroom or school?
If you are a single global teacher in a school the TEACHERPRENEUR subscription gives you access to our global community and to one project for one semester.
If you have 2-3 of classrooms (at any level or mixed levels, up to 50 students) who want to join (to one or more projects) the BRONZE subscription is best for you.
If you have a variety of student groups across levels and across projects, up to 100 students, the SILVER subscription gives you great flexibility to mix and match.
The GOLD subscription is for those schools who are really focused on global collaborative learning and building intercultural understanding and global competency into their whole school programs.
