A Message from the Principal:
Dear North Parents,
We are just about to complete the longest stretch of the school year without a break. The students have worked incredibly hard and they closed out the first quarter strong! Although going without a day off can be strenuous, it’s also important to remember to stay focused during second and third quarters, which can feel punctuated due to several breaks. Now is also a good time to remind students that somehow those semester exams creep up very quickly after Winter Break (January 18).
This will be our last newsletter before Thanksgiving, which is a wonderful time to pause and celebrate gratitude. We are very grateful for our supportive North parents and we are thankful that you share your students with us every day. We hope your break is full of good health, rest and joy!
Take Care,
Dr. Kathryn C. Murray

Something fishy is going on in SCI203...
There have been some new additions to the GPN family. On Thursday evening 138 chinook salmon eggs arrived to take up their temporary home in SCI203. New to North this year, Mr. Trepanowski will be facilitating a program called Salmon in the Classroom. During this program, sponsored by the Michigan DNR, these eggs (soon to be fish) will be living in his classroom for about the next 5 months. Students will be observing, learning, and maintaining the health of the salmon. We will keep you updated on the salmon as they grow-look at the pictures below.

Pre-Thanksgiving Wellness Wednesday
Next week many of us will gather with those we love, share a meal ... and maybe watch some football. We'll also think back on the past year and get in touch with the things we're grateful for. Scientific research has shown that by regularly taking time to practice gratitude, one can improve their physical and emotional health, increase their sense of optimism, improve their relationships with others, increase mental strength and even get a better night's sleep!
Over the next few days, especially as we approach Thanksgiving, we encourage you to write down or at least mindfully think about the things in your life you're grateful for. This practice is easier to do some days than others, but even thinking about small things like being grateful for the sun shining, a favorite food or a laugh with friends can help boost your mood! Give it a try!
December 1st is a half day. See the schedule below for the specific times:
