LATE WORK/HOMEWORK COMMUNICATION
Remote Learning is causing all of us to think differently about some common school practices. Flexibility is crucial as everyone is having to adjust to changes that occur often and circumstances that are often out of our control. With that being said, we need to help support student learning by having students focus on current learning and work at hand rather than splitting their attention with older work and assignments. We also need to protect teacher’s time so they can stay current on the support they provide students rather than spending too much time going back to review work that was due days - and even weeks prior.
Student engagement is paramount for their success in learning. Much of the work assigned by teachers is meant to gauge student understanding in regards to important concepts, standards, and skills. Teachers know how to adjust their practice and support students differently by reviewing the work students submit. It is important for students to stay up-to-date on the work assigned so they can continue to build on concepts within classes. Teachers are reviewing and reflecting on their Gradebooks to ensure the work assigned is essential and skill related. We will work to ensure the assignments given to students are meant to enhance skills rather than monitor engagement.
Starting today, October 15, when an assignment is not turned in by the due date, teachers will mark MISSING in Tyler SIS. This will be true for all assignments - even when students are absent. This will communicate with students and families that work is missing.
If an assignment was turned in and a teacher has not graded it yet, teachers will leave the grade blank in Tyler. This will indicate to students/families that teachers have their work, it is just not graded yet.
Tyler Student Information System vs. Google Classroom
Through Remote Learning, most feedback occurs electronically. Students may submit work to the teacher and the teacher will comment on it and return it. Final grades will only be housed within Tyler SIS.
One Book One School
This year we are reading a book together as a whole school. The idea of reading a book is exciting during these times. Our hope is to build connections between all of us through a shared reading experience. Throughout this experience we will hold discussions in classes and grow together.
In Look Both Ways, Jason Reynolds weaves ten tales (one per block) about what happens after the dismissal bell rings, into one wickedly funny, piercingly poignant look at the detours we face on the walk home, and in life.
Scholastic Book Fair
Bednarcik students have always LOVED coming to the book fair. ELA teachers have also mentioned that their students are not reading like they used to. Here's a great way to get books into your student's hands and at the same time getting them to step away from their screen. Did you know Scholastic gives 25% of your purchase right back to BE which is then used to purchase new books for the library? The online fair dates are Oct. 29-Nov. 11. Here's a sneak peak.

We will also include this form weekly in the Bulldog Blast for community members to provide feedback and keep lines of communication open so we can respond to needs as they arise and provide support when needed.
Important Attendance Information
Attendance
Parents please remember to check your child’s attendance in Tyler. If you notice one or two absences, call the Attendance Office to report reason. This includes appointments and technology issues. Any student that misses up to two classes without a parent call will be marked “U” Unexcused for those classes. Any student that is marked absent for three or more classes, a call will go home to the parents. Students are expected to be present in class for the entire class period. The Attendance Line number is 630-636-2501. You can also email Mrs. Kiliszewski at Mkiliszewski@sd308.org if you have any questions.
During Remote Learning students must be called into the Attendance Line if they are not participating for all or part of the Remote Learning school days (Monday-Friday). Please leave a message on the Attendance Line notating the reason for absence. Include all symptoms or the reason if it is not illness related. Students need to be called in if missing a partial day. Please notate class/classes that will be missed and reason.
Wednesday Attendance Update
Students will be given a Google Form to complete for each class period every Wednesday by 8:00 AM. Students have until 12:00 to complete their attendance form from each teacher.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the PTO?
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is composed of parents, teachers, and staff working together to better our school and foster relationships throughout the school community.
What do we do?
We assist the school with providing innovative teaching resources for our kiddos. We plan fun events to bring families into the school throughout the year such as the 6th grade ice cream social and the 8th grade dance. We support our teachers and staff with appreciation events. We work with our school administrators to collaborate on school events and help to staff those events.
Who can join?
If you have a child at our school, you can.
Membership fees help to pay for all of the fun events and innovative teaching resources we assist the school with throughout the year. We also host fundraisers to help.
What if I am not able to help at the school, can I still join?
Absolutely. We ask for volunteers throughout the year but there is no minimum requirement to be a member. We’re glad to have your support in whatever form you are able.
Do I have to attend meetings to join?
No. We would love you to be there to help us plan and to provide feedback on the things we are doing, but it is not a requirement of membership.
