Walden Weekly

School News You Can Use!

August 28, 2020
Good Afternoon Walden Families,

What a fabulous first full week we have had at school! Considering we have only been in session for seven days, our students are making amazing progress in developing routines and following classroom structures. It's hard to believe that it's only been seven days!

Reminding ourselves that we are only in our seventh day of classroom instruction is important. Many of our teachers are doing what's best for our students by continuing to modify and change anything they realize isn't working. That is what good teaching is! It's thinking on our feet and working creatively within our plans. We continue to appreciate your patience as some initially shared information may change based on the needs of our students and families.

Lastly, we want to stress how truly grateful we are to have such wonderful parents as our partners during this busy time. We know that at home, you may be working with challenges that seem overwhelming at times and please know that we are here to help you in any way we can. Have a safe and relaxing weekend!

Thank you!

Stephanie Strenger, Walden Principal

Walden's Open House

Walden's Virtual Open House will take place during the evening of September 9th. Classroom teachers will be live Zooming with the parents of their students to share information on curriculum, classroom procedures, and grade-level specific information. Save the date for this fun night and please look for more information to come!

Storytime with Mrs. Strenger

Walden Grounds

We realize that some children have been visiting the Walden school grounds during their lunchtime or other available opportunities. We ask that all students make sure to clean up after themselves in order to keep our areas clean and local animals away. We appreciate your consideration!

Communication Information (2nd Posting)

We definitely understand that parent-teacher communication is very important this year since we are working as a team more than ever to support your child's education. Many times during the day, our teachers are very busy on Zoom with students or other teachers, preparing videos, collaborating with colleagues and instructional coaches, and hopefully finding time to eat their lunches. If they are not able to respond to your email or phone call immediately, they will definitely be in touch as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Enrollment Information (2nd Posting)

We understand that some Walden families are exploring different options for school this year. If your family would like to "unenroll" your child, please send an email to Katy Ruocco at kruocco@dps109.org. The email should include:

  • student(s) name, grade, school here in 109
  • will the student(s) be
- moving - within Illinois
- moving - out of state

- moving - out of the country

- not moving - will be attending a private school in Illinois
- not moving - will be home schooled

Families are welcome to re-enroll during the school year as long as they still meet our residency requirements.
