What Do You Do If You Want to Visit for Lunch?
Beginning Tuesday, parents can visit during their child's lunch time. As that opportunity begins, here are some guidelines for you so that experience can be meaningful and enjoyable. 1. Ask yourself if visiting is a good idea. If your child has difficulty separating from you at morning drop off (or at other times), you may want to wait awhile before coming for lunch. Think about how your child will recover from being upset and how much instruction he might miss. We want that experience to be a positive time for you and your child. You know your child best so please think ahead of time if it would be a good idea. 2. Decide whether or not to tell your child you are coming. Kids get so excited when they know someone is coming for lunch. They are also extremely disappointed when that special person doesn't show up. If you are unsure if you can come, you may want to say nothing and surprise your child. In other cases, it may be best to give your child advance notice. You know what works for your child. We simply ask that if you say you are coming, then please follow through. 3. Be prepared. Anyone visiting for lunch needs to be on the emergency contact list. All visitors need to bring their ID. Come early so you can park, get checked in at the office and walk down to the cafeteria. Know when your child's lunch time is. (See below button for lunch schedules.) Also realize that classes may be a couple minutes early or late depending on the day. We ask visitors to wait in the office until a few minutes before the assigned lunch time in order to manage the number of people coming and going. 4. Please follow our procedures. Visitors can only eat with their children. For safety and security reasons, it is not appropriate to invite other children to sit and eat with you (unless you are on their contact list.) Our staff are glad to see you but know that lunch time is not a good time to conference. Our teachers need to eat during this time as well and they also have responsibilities for supervising children. We are providing unencumbered time during lunch for all staff and there will be a variety of people monitoring students during lunch. Please sit at assigned visitor tables inside and outside. If you bring preschool aged children, they need to stay at the table with you. When the class lines up to leave, your child should finish up and join the class. We also ask that you say goodbye in the cafeteria to your child and not follow the class to the room. These procedures are in place for the safety and security of our children and to value our teaching and learning time. We look forward to seeing you and we hope you will enjoy time visiting with our children. Enjoy your time with your family on this Labor Day weekend.
Strength and Blessings,
Mr. Maness
Please remember that early dismissals should be done before 1:45. After that time, preparation is underway for a safe schoolwide dismissal.
Notes and Reminders
Game Day Give Back--Northwestern Football Coach Page Wofford and his players came on Friday morning to talk with our fifth graders what it means to "Win Today" in all we do in and out of school. Brooks Meetze was selected as a student who demonstrates kindness, respect, and responsibility each day. (See picture above.)
Interested in Helping Coach Girls on the Run? Girls on the Run is a fun after school program for 3rd-5th grade girls that promotes their physical, mental, emotional and social growth. If you are interested in the program for your child or are interested in volunteering, go to their website: https://www.gotrtricountysc.org/ We are already thinking we will have enough girls for two teams.
Student Devices--Will be given to students to take home after the following criteria have been met:a. Parents have completed the technology forms that were a part of new student and returning student registration.
b. Payment of the $35 Technology Protection Plan Fee (or a waiver was completed). See note below about fees and charges. The TPP can be paid at school (during Open House) or online at https://rockhillsc.csiepay.com/Views/Payment/Pay.aspx
c. Students complete their Digital Citizenship lessons with their teacher.
d. Teachers have shown students how to use their devices.
This process will take a few weeks to work through and your child's teacher will keep you informed when the devices will come home. Parents can opt to have their child's device stay at school.
Device Fees for 22-23 School Year (District Guidelines)
- $35 – Technology Protection Plan covers one damage in the 22-23 school year. Additional damages after the first will be charged and paid to CPES.
- $40 – Replacement charger. If students need a charger, families will be charged by CPES. The $35 TPP DOES NOT COVER the cost of a replacement charger.
- $18 – Laptop Case replacement. All devices are expected to be in cases AT ALL TIMES. If students need a replacement case, CPES will charge the student $18.
Safety Volunteers--We would like to have some additional help with arrival and dismissal on the Cherry Road Car Loop in the mornings and afternoons. Volunteers would help walk with little ones and help monitor kids outside during this time. If you (or someone you know) might be interested, please complete the following form. Know you can volunteer in whatever way that suits your schedule. We especially need help at the beginning of the year. We will also provide training to know what to do. https://forms.gle/bBZQhSQ8ViCT6eRp9
