EMPATHY: the ability to understand and share the feelings of another
it lies in the ability to get the other person’s point of view
and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.
quote by Henry Ford
As we go throughout the next week, I would like to challenge each one of us to slow down a little and try to have empathy for one another. A huge component of Design Thinking is teaching empathy to our students. I strongly believe that our students will best learn this concept by seeing it modeled by the adults in the building. Empathy is a key ingredient in any successful relationship because it helps us understand the perspectives, needs, and intentions of others. Also, when we show empathy towards others, they are more likely to show empathy back towards us. It is a win-win for everyone. So instead of getting frustrated with each other (students, parents, colleagues, family members, etc.), let's try to put ourselves in the other person's shoes. Just something to think about....
