McKay High Weekly Newsletter

Weeks of Nov 21 thru Dec 2

Message from the Admin Team

We have reached another milestone in the school year. These shortened weeks provide our students with a valuable opportunity to get caught up. Please make some time over the next week to check your student's grades using ParentVue. Likewise this time away can be a great opportunity to set goals for your student moving forward. Please reach out to your student's teachers when you have questions regarding the gradebook and anything connected to your student's learning. In this week's newsletter you will see that as we transition from one season to the next our focus remains on creating positive experiences for all of our students moving forward. Thank you for your support this fall.

Shout Outs (Academics, Athletics, Activities)

This week our community stepped in to celebrate our McKay successes. Early in the week two of our students were selected by the East Salem Rotary for their exceptional participation in and around the McKay community. Nadiah Luna and Miguel (Mikey) Garcia were invited to the Rotary Luncheon and given awards for their active engagement at our school.

Later in the week the champion boys soccer team were honored by the Salem Keizer School District and the City of Salem. Salem Mayor Chris Hoy proclaimed November 18 as Royal Scots Day as a way to honor our team's success. He was joined by the school district's superintendent Christy Perry along with several of our district's board members. Alongside this one of our soccer players has been nominated for the Statesman Journal's Athlete of the Week Award. Please take a moment to vote for our very own Abdoulie Jallow at the link below.

Santiam Testing Program

The K-12 COVID-19 Weekly Screening Program is a free and optional program for students to screen for COVID-19 with a saliva sample. You can opt-in and opt-out at any time, consent forms are available in multiple languages. Participation is not required each week but it is strongly encouraged. By screening for COVID-19 weekly we are able to reduce outbreaks by catching positive cases early, especially for asymptomatic individuals. By doing this, we can keep schools open, children in school, and parents in work.
