A Note from Dr. Hanson, Superintendent

Hello NPPS Families,

I would like to start by saying how incredibly proud of each of you that I am. You just completed a school year during a very trying time and did so with grit and determination. Thank You!

As we move into the summer, you need to know that we are busy working on back-to-school plans that will bring our students and staff back in the safest manner possible. More details will be shared through the summer via school message, email, text, and social media. Information can also be found on our website at Return To School 2020 - 2021.

On a final note, NPPS is very excited to announce the launch of our Welcome Center. The Welcome Center is located at the McKinley Education Center and is open Monday - Friday from 7:30-3:30 or by appointment. Please stop by the center for assistance with registration, information updates, or general district level questions. Questions can be directed to Connie Thompson at welcomecenter@nppsd.org. Superintendent's Message Regarding Protests

Dear Families and Staff,

Our nation, community, and school families and staff have been shaken and are trying to make sense of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Each of us has undoubtedly seen the outcries of unrest, anger, and grief from our neighbors across the country. Groups have gathered to speak, be heard, and express their right to free speech.

NPPS strives to provide education through a safe and inclusive learning environment. We firmly believe that we are better together, and it is our differences, not similarities, that build the foundations of success. Additionally, we will stand against any acts of racism, disrespect, and inequitable treatment of all people we serve.

The ongoing unrest of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with civil injustices, has left many of us feeling a sense of overwhelming despair. You are not alone. Below, please find a collection of resources on responding to police violence, including Teaching Tolerance. Please utilize these resources to guide conversations around bias and systemic racism. Additional resources are provided to help families, and students better understand our current climate.

NPPS is a place where we will continue to promote kindness, inclusion, and safety in a safe learning environment.

We Are Better Together,

Dr. Ron Hanson, Superintendent

Summer Workout Plans - In Compliance With NSAA Guidelines

THANK YOU for your patience in waiting for us to develop a plan and organization so that you can workout in a safe and structured environment. It is not easy living in the unknown, but unfortunately, that is the day and age we are living. We want to make sure you all come back SAFELY and are progressing back appropriately!

Workout groups for June have been emailed to all students and posted to social media for those who signed up through the Google Form. Most of the students got their first preference for the workout time they signed up for. Students have been assigned to either an A Group or B Group. To adhere to the NSAA guidelines, you will have to stay in that group throughout June.

Students and parents/guardians must fill out the "Right of Entry and Use Agreement," which was shared with the athletes and posted on our social media sites. This needs to be filled out before a student can workout this summer at North Platte High School.

Also, the June Workout Schedule calendar was emailed to all students and posted to social media for those who signed up through the Google Form. Know that the plan for JULY is not set yet, and will be set as more information is provided.

When you arrive on Monday, you will report to one of two locations: If you are in GROUP A, you will report to the SOUTH DOORS by the NPHS weight room. Once there, you will be asked to stand on an "X" marked on the floor in the hallway. A coach will check you in by doing a thermal scan of your temperature and ask some questions regarding your general health. Once this is completed for the group, you will enter the weight room. If you are in GROUP B, you will report to the CONCESSION STAND at Bauer Field. Once there, you will be asked to stand on an "X" marked on the concrete in front of the Concession Stand. A coach will check you in by doing a thermal scan of your temperature and ask some questions regarding your general health. Once this is completed for the group, you will enter the football field.

The information for the middle school workouts will be shared soon. They will follow a similar process as to what the high school students used to sign up. Mr. Joneson will share out a Google Form to students so they can sign up for workout times. All workouts will take place at North Platte High School and are tentatively scheduled to start on June 15th.

Finally, be aware that the North Platte Cross Country team will be out in the community completing running workouts. Do know they are following all NSAA guidelines and are under the supervision of their head coach during these workouts.

Watch your email and social media for updates as they become available.

We will see you soon,

Jordan Cudney

NPHS Senior Tribute Video & Newly Released Commencement TIME for the Class of 2020

Current Plans:

  • May 17, 2020: A video tribute to the Class of 2020 will be shared with students, families, and staff. This is to honor Seniors on what was their original Commencement Ceremony date. Click Here To View!
  • Graduation practice(s) will be held on July 22nd, in accordance with the DHM established at that time.
  • July 25th, 2020, at 2:00 PM CST: Commencement will take place on this date as long as we are able to follow safety guidelines established at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • The location of Commencement is scheduled for the NPHS Athletic Complex.
  • If guidelines allow, graduation practice will be held in the days prior to Commencement. Students that plan to participate in Commencement should attend this practice. The specific date and time of practice will be emailed to students and families in early July. This information will also be provided through automated phone calls to families.

Contingency Plans:

  • If local, state, and/or federal guidelines (i.e. Centers for Disease Control) do not allow for a single Commencement Ceremony (due to limits on social gatherings), NPHS will look to offer multiple, smaller ceremonies on July 25, 2020.
  • If guidelines restrict social gatherings to even lower numbers, NPHS will look to conduct even more ceremonies over the course of July 24, 25, and 26.
  • Any limitations on social gatherings may result in Commencement Ceremonies being moved to the NPHS Main Gym.
  • If guidelines place restrictions on Commencement Ceremonies, this will be communicated to students and families via email. This information will also be provided through automated phone calls to families.

Student Plans:

  • Students that do not wish to participate in commencement, or are unable to participate, may still receive their diplomas, caps, gowns, and other graduation materials at an alternative time.
  • Students that have completed all graduation requirements will have their transcripts finalized once all coursework is complete. Transcripts can then be forwarded to the student's college, employer, etc. Transcripts will show that the student has graduated from NPHS.
