Dear Pebblecreek Parents,
As part of the student support team, MCVS conducts speech and language screenings in the Spring. Feel free to visit our webpage to learn more about us at www.planospeechtherapy.com
Screenings will be conducted on Fridays beginning, February 07, 2014 in an effort to help you determine any needs your child may have in the area of communication.
Our goal is to assist you in helping your child reach his/her full communication potential.
Research has demonstrated the importance of speech & language development and its relationship with academic performance.
Early detection by age 5 is critical to allow children the opportunity to keep pace with peers in learning and social relationships. Screenings can be done as early as 6 weeks and are typically recommended starting at 18 months.
Some young children exhibit questionable speech skills during development. These may include: substitution of sounds (ex. tar/car, wabbit/rabbit) or difficulty responding appropriately to questions, difficulty grasping information in the classroom as quickly as others or they may repeat sounds, words, or phrases (ex. sssam).
The screening will provide general information and help identify if any area needs further investigation. Each screening will take approximately 15 minutes. All screenings will be administered in English and, if appropriate, Spanish. The speech and language screening probes the following areas:
Speech (Sound production) Language (comprehension & expression)
Fluency (Stuttering) Voice (quality)
A summary with results and recommendations will be provided in a sealed envelope. If you wish, we will provide you with information about the options available to you in obtaining a full evaluation.
Please feel free to call us with any questions or concerns.
