ACT Aspire Achievement Grades 3-8 Testing Week Begins Monday, April 11th -

Our students in grades 3-8 will take the ACT Aspire Achievement Test beginning on Monday, April 11th. Achievement tests measure mastery of learning. The tests also serve as an "audit" for us a school to monitor/adjust curriculum as measured by our Archdiocesan benchmarks. Our benchmarks are targeted for excellence and include Illinois state standards, Common Core, and college readiness benchmarks.

The Archdiocese decided to switch to the ACT Aspire test replacing the Terra Nova Achievement test previously administered to grades 2-7. Aspire will present us with rich data; a copy of your child's results will be provided to you sometime in May.

As always, it's very important that children arrive on time for class...particularly for testing week. Children (in grades 3-8) who arrive tardy will be asked to stay in the office until a break in testing or testing is completed for that day. We will not interrupt classes during testing.

Please make sure your child is well-rested and has eaten a healthy breakfast each day. Also, send in a healthy snack, as "breaks" will be given during test administration.

Calculators will not be allowed for the grades 3-5 mathematics portion off the test; however, approved calculators will be allowed for grades 6-8.

Here is our testing schedule for grades 3-8

Monday, April 11th : Reading

Tuesday, Aprill 12th: Mathematics

Wednesday, April 13th: English and Writing

Thursday, April 14th: Science

Friday, April 15th-Friday, April 22nd (Make-up Days for testing. Note: April 22nd is the last day make-up tests may be administered.

We will be taking a "paper and pencil" version of the test.

Testing is important and assists us in data driven instruction; however, it measures only a portion of what a child is capable of in terms of achievement. I simply ask that children try their very best on each question. I'm confident our students will do well.

Our faculty and I will analyze the results in order to identify strengths and areas of improvement in curriculum materials and professional growth opportunities.

Third Quarter Honor Roll Released

Reading Counts Program Info. Released Soon - Grades 3-5

Grades 3-5 Parents, look for information to go home soon explaining our Reading Counts program. (This replaces our current AR Program.) Students will be able to earn points for reading books from an extensive database of titles. We have subscribed to the program and have just finished "enrolling" our students. This is a wonderful program to encourage a love of reading.
