March 3, 2023

It has been awhile since I wrote a Duveneck Connections Newsletter to our community. I hope you find the information below useful and relevant. I want to thank all of you for supporting our students, your children, in their pursuit for learning, belonging and connection.

Junior Coach Leadership Program Starting up at Duveneck!

Starting this month, Duveneck's Trimester 3 Student Council members will launch our first implementation of the Junior Coach Leadership Program at our school. This program builds play into leadership by encouraging teams of students to work together to learn games, fair play, and positive conflict resolution strategies. The "Junior Coaches" (our Trimester 3 Student Council members) are then equipped to teach these skills and lessons appropriately to their classmates during recess and lunch. Mr. Jue and Coach Bryant are the teacher mentors of this program. We hope to build this program over time so that all our students will have an opportunity, if they want to, to be Junior Coaches for our school.

Open House, Friday, April 14!

This year, Duveneck's Open House will be held on Friday, April 14, 7:50-8:30 AM. Yes, you read that right - we are going to have a morning Open House this year. All the hard work and effort that has been happening since the start of school will be showcased at our Open House. We encourage you to start in your child's current classroom before you look to the future or back in the past. Afterwards, there will be a Coffee with the Principal in front of my office where we can meet, talk and I can answer any questions you may have.

So, please mark your calendars now - April 14, 7:50-8:30 AM - this event is not to be missed!!

Virtual PK-8 Parent Education: Setting & Sustaining Healthy Habits

Children's Health Council (CHC) Parent Education:

  • March 20, Virtual PK-8 Parent Education: Setting & Sustaining Healthy Habits

Over the past 3 years we have seen how much impact the pandemic has had on the habits, routines, and expectations of our children. Now that we have returned to a “new normal,” we need to reestablish or introduce new routines, limits and boundaries that may have been upended by the pandemic. In this PAUSD Parent Ed session, we will hear from CHC’s Catherine T. Harvey Center for Clinical Services experts Dr. Natalie Pon, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Dr. Cassandra Sanchez, PsyD, Licensed Psychologist about how as a parent you can support your child in evaluating, reestablishing and encouraging healthy habits and routines in the home and school.

Date and Time: Monday, March 20th, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Location: Zoom (provided through CHC Eventbrite registration)
