I am so grateful to work at Monte Vista. What an amazing holiday season we had this year. I hope you and your family had a restful break full of family and friends. This month we start looking ahead to the 2nd semester of our school year and making goals. What are some of your family goals?
I have shared below various resources and updates that pertain to counseling; I hope they are helpful!

Financial Aid 101
What is financial aid?
Financial Aid is an umbrella term used to when referring to scholarship, grants and loans for education.
- FAFSA: every senior and their family should be filling out the FAFSA, this important document will help colleges (including Moorpark) determine your eligibility for scholarships & grants. Fill it out online at: https://fafsa.ed.gov/

Scholarships to look at:
- APCA Scholarship: The Asian Pacific Islanders for Professional and Community Advancement (APCA), a non-profit Employee Resource Group of AT&T, is seeking qualified applicants for its 2017 National APCA Scholarship Program. College bound high school seniors entering an accredited (2-year or 4-year) college or university in Fall 2017, of any ethnic or cultural background who meet APCA Program requirements, are invited to apply. APCA Scholarship Program details including the complete eligibility requirements and FAQ, the link to download the scholarship application, and the process to submit the scholarship application can be found on the APCA Scholarship website. To receive consideration, complete student applications must be submitted online no later than Tuesday, January 31, 2017, 11:59 PM (Pacific Standard Time).
- Reagan Foundation Scholarship: Honoring both our nation’s 40th President and his lasting legacy of leadership, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation Scholars Program awards Ventura County, Calif., high school seniors who exemplify outstanding leadership skills and personal character with a total of $50,000 in scholarships annually. Elementary Discovery Day
I am especially excited to say that I will be using about 30-45 minutes of this day (every other week) to work on elementary social skills. We will be covering topics such as: how to be a good friend, coping skills, different types of "brain smarts" and much more!
