This Week in SALS Youth Services
October 21, 2016
Short and sweet
What does your library do to help your community?
Here are some ideas I found...
1. Be a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) pick up site or start a healthy workplace meal/veggie delivery service - below are few examples that libraries in our region use:
9 Miles East
Field Goods
Juniper Farms
2. Host active programs:
Schuylerville Public Library's Pokemon Go History Walk
Saratoga Springs Public LIbrary's Parent/Child Yoga
Stillwater Free Library's Fall Festival's Parade and Scavenger Hunt
or Stony Creek Free Library's Zumba classes - open to all
3. Promote local and regional initiatives -
Glens Falls Food Hub
Captial Roots - Squash Hunger
4. Provide healthy snacks at your programs
5. Become a Tobacco-free environment

SALS Library Services Seed Grant
During the SALS planning process, library staff and trustees asked that the Library Services challenge grant scope be broadened to allow libraries the opportunity to provide new services or expand existing services in order to respond to modern challenges and shifts in community priorities.
SALS will offer Library Services Seed Challenge grants up to $10,000 per project. The minimum award will be $1,000. Libraries may work together to develop a larger project funded at a higher level.
Please call me or Sara Dallas with your grant ideas. There will be an informational meeting scheduled in November.
For more information check out the application and guidelines
SALS Library Construction Grant
I am happy to share with you the Construction Challenge Grant Application. SALS will be awarding 6 grants up to $5,000 per grant application.
Grant funds may be used to purchase equipment, materials, supplies, labor, professional services (for example engineer, interior design or architect) to help develop a NYS Library Construction grant.
The project must fit into your library’s plan of service. Deadline for the grant is December 31, 2016.
A meeting to discuss this grant will be scheduled in November.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me or Sara Dallas.
For more information check out the application and guidelines as well as the Walkabout. I am available to for walkabouts if you would like an impartial walker, but it is best to consider different target audiences, like caregivers with kids, crawlers, walkers, strollers, those who are height challenged, etc...if you are considering working on your children's room.
Summer Reading Manuals and Catalogs
I have 2 copies of the manual in my office. Online log ins will be coming soon. If you want to borrow a hard copy we will do this the "old fashion" way without Polaris tracking. You can borrow it for 2 weeks and then return it to me, unless someone else requests it. Then I will be in touch on where to route it.
