SMART PHONE & SOCIAL MEDIA AWARENESS NIGHT
Join us for an important presentation on Smartphone and Social Media Safety for elementary and middle school students. This ADULT ONLY event will take place on Monday, October 2nd at 6:30pm in the Huber Street School Gymnasium. Parents/Guardians from Huber Street School, Clarendon School, and Secaucus Middle School are invited to attend.
While the subject matter is directed toward parents/guardians of students in grades 3 through 8, we welcome all parents/guardians who are interested in attending to join us. Any parents bringing children will not be admitted into the event due to the adult nature of what is being discussed. We appreciate your cooperation. We look forward to seeing you there.
ELEMENTARY EXPRESS WITH MS. LOTT
A new feature for our Huber Street School Newsletter will be the Elementary Express with Ms. Lott. Ms. Felicia Lott is the Supervisor of Elementary Education and she works with faculty, staff, and students in the Millridge School, Huber Street School, and Clarendon School.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER WITH MS. VIGGIANO
We have already begun our Paws Points program to recognize students who are going out of their way to show kindness and respect towards others. The goals of our program are to practice having a positive attitude, acting responsibility, working and playing safely and showing respect. It is a fun way to recognize children who are making a difference in our school!
WEEK OF RESPECT
Every year, during the first week of October, students around the state of New Jersey celebrate the Week of Respect to inspire students to be good citizens and to not be a bully.
KINDNESS WEEK
In the State of New Jersey, we recognize School Violence Awareness Week. This week affords a school the opportunity to discuss violence prevention and school safety.
RED RIBBON WEEK
Every October, schools celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Students are reminded each day of the importance of avoiding drugs and alcohol.
PTA PRESS
Ice Cream Social
Join our PTA on Friday, September 29th (from 5:30 P.M. - 6:30 P.M.) in the Huber Street School Courtyard for the PTA Ice Cream Social. Meet our Executive Board and discuss upcoming events. The PTA will be giving out a voucher for one small soft serve ice cream cone from Mike's Ice Cream. We hope to see you there.
Pumpkin Patch
The Huber Street School PTA will be hosting their annual Pumpkin Patch at both Huber Street School and the Millridge School on Monday, October 16th. In conjunction with Mayor Mike Gonnelli and the Secaucus Town Council, every student at Millridge and Huber Street will get to pick their own pumpkin to take home. Thank you Mayor Mike, Town Council, and to our PTA!

FIELD OF FLAGS
In honor of Veteran’s Day, the 5th grade class at Huber Street School would like to thank our veterans with a “Field of Flags” tribute on our front grounds. We are asking our Huber Families to sponsor a flag to be displayed on the lawn. Each flag will be a $2 donation (you may sponsor more than one flag) and all proceeds will go to our local veterans at the VFW and American Legion. Each honoree's name will be displayed.

FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH
The federal government's universal free lunch program expired and our schools will return to offering free and reduced school lunch to only students who qualify based on family income. Families are encouraged to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch application if they believe they qualify.
As in previous years, if you would like to purchase lunch, please replenish your child's lunch account by logging into the Payforit.net (https://www.payforit.net/Login.aspx) website.
Huber Street School and Clarendon School will be serving a more traditional and expanded lunch menu. Please be reminded that students will need to input their Student ID number when purchasing items from the cafeteria (as no cash will be accepted.)
OUTDOOR RECESS
We will make every effort to have our students go outside for recess. Please make sure to provide your children with appropriate clothing for cold weather. Students will remain indoors during the following weather conditions.

SCHOOL DRESS CODE
The Secaucus Board of Education requires students to wear school uniforms on a daily basis, including field trips. Students are to arrive at school wearing the appropriate clothing as defined in the dress code. The following is a list of clothing items in compliance with the uniform policy and information regarding this can also be found in the Elementary Handbook.

Shoes:
ALL shoes must be securely fastened with a backing to the feet. Sneakers are strongly recommended for everyday use.
Flip-flops, open toed shoes, slippers, and slide shoes are NOT permitted.
Crocs are permitted ONLY in “sport mode”, meaning the pivoting heel strap must be utilized when worn.
Uggs boots or shoes are permitted, but NOT slippers or slides (all shoes must have a back).
**Please note:
All students are permitted to wear knee length shorts until October 31st and again in the spring beginning April 15th, in a docker style in navy or khaki. Athletic shorts should reach the end of the finger tip in length.

Huber Street School is an elementary school in Secaucus, NJ that educates students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The Millridge School (Early Learning Center) is a satellite school that houses our pre-kindergarten students. Huber Street School has been educating Secaucus students since 1910.
