6th graders had fun starting off the week with a typing racing competition. They also completed a mini-unit on shape typing Using Microsoft Word. They will continue their work using Microsoft Word next week. This week they learn to take snapshots with 100% success! Their typing words per minute goal is now 19 wpm with 90% accuracy next week. While some students have already met grade level goals, all students should practice to improve their skills. Students were instructed if they did not meet their minimum goal that they should practice at home. They may practice anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specific assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible.
All grades finished ther week making a collaborative slide show using our POWER words: Analyze, Evaluate, and Support.

6th Grade Band: We have still been splitting out into sectionals for 6th grade band. The rest of the band who are not in sectionals have been working on pages 13-14 out of the band book. Students have also been asked to play individually at the end of each class lately to spot check for students who may need some extra help. Students should be practicing at home on their own every week. Next week we will be focusing on pages 16-18 in the book. We will be working on baskets for the basket raffle for the parade of bands on March 14, an email was sent home to students and parents. Please start bringing in items for your baskets, or monetary donations so items for the baskets can be purchased.
7th Grade Band: 7th grade band is now working on their new books in class. We have started a unit on scales and are working on concert C. The books will stay at school, but we have started a new warm up. The students can take their warm ups home and work on it at home. Students have received new sheet music for their upcoming concert and we are excited to see what the kids do. We will be working on baskets for the basket raffle for the parade of bands on March 14, an email was sent home to students and parents. Please start bringing in items for your baskets, or monetary donations so items for the baskets can be purchased.
8th Grade Band: 8th Grade students are working on their solos and ensembles for contest. There will be a schedule for lessons posted on google classroom every week.
Students are showing a ton of commitment and I am so excited about what is going on. We are working on getting clinicians in to work with the group before we perform at contest. A note will be going home soon with information about contest. We will be working on baskets for the basket raffle for the parade of bands on March 14, an email was sent home to students and parents. HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
The students have been working hard in 2017 from new and different rhythms to brushing up on their Latin skills. Ask your child to showcase what they've learned. I have a feeling you might be a bit impressed!
Students have been attending solo and small ensemble lessons as assigned in preparation for Central Methodist University's Music Festival in March. Don't forget about the Pre-Fest Showcase for these specific students on Monday, Feb. 13th @ 6pm in the FMS Band Room. (open to performers and their families only)
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)

HORNET PRIDE:
Contest and our next concert are rapidly approaching, and I'm very pleased with the work these singers are doing! Please encourage your singer to tell you about our selections. I'm sure they'd be thrilled to sing them for you as well!
We will be singing at Central Methodist University's music festival on Friday, March 3rd. I'm looking forward to learning this music, and sharing it with a larger audience!
