We finished reading Freak the Mighty and the 6th graders really liked it. We also watched the movie this week. Ask your child which one they liked better. Next week, we will work on writing comparison essays comparing the book to the movie. The book is always better to me!
I handed their Adjective Quizzes and their Freak the Mighty Tests back to them this week. They did a great job on these tests and it really reflected in their grades. Be sure to check Skyward to stay up-to-date on your child’s grade.
They got to share their Halloween stories and pictures with their classmates this week. Wow! There are a lot of creative writers in this grade. They worked so hard on these and it really showed. I have some wonderful, yet creepy reading material for this Halloween weekend.
Happy Halloween

Math News and Updates
Amanda Lois amanda.lois@yorkville.k12.wi.us
This week in sixth grade math we reviewed long division and all four decimal operations. Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals by decimals. On Thursday we also worked on a Halloween Sudoku in place of Moby Max. The students seemed to really enjoy this logic based, mind-bending puzzle!
The first Moby Max math contest will end on Tuesday. Students will be able to turn in their points for prizes! They can continue to earn points throughout the long weekend!
Next week we will review the decimal operations. Then we will combine work with fractions and decimals to solve real world problems. We will end next week by taking the Module 5 quiz.
Have a great weekend!

In social studies we investigate the goals of early Spanish explorers known as conquistadors. We will revisited the Aztec and Inca Empires and learned of the Spanish conquistadors that led to their defeat. Next week we will finish the chapter by looking at the competition for colonies. We will explore the Reformation and the search for the Northwest Passage. We will begin wrapping up chapter 2 next week. Please check Skyward for updated grades. If you have any questions or concerns. Have a good weekenc.
Have a great weekend.

Science News and Updates
Becky Seitz becky.seitz@yorkville.k12.wi.us
In science we completed our Chapter 18 test and grades will be posted by the end of the weekend. We will continue our work with Astronomy when we begin Chapter 19 - Stars, Galaxies, & the Universe. This will be a fun chapter as we will be working on several small projects. If you could please remind your child to make sure they complete their Lunar Cycle calendar project that is due Tuesday, November 1st. They can find the information on any lunar cycle website but the one I prefer is www.moongiant.com. Thanks for your help! Just an FYI...in Skyward, if a 0% grade is given, that is because a student did not have the assignment turned in when it was due. If the grade shows a “ * ” it is not missing (as Skyward defaults it to) it simple has not yet been entered. Hope this clears up any confusion. Have a great long weekend!
