NAESP - Report to Parents: Science Fun for Kids
Recently, Buckingham Parent Volunteers helped inspire some of our youngest learners during our Science Alive Days in March. Our primary-aged children participated in some fun-filled science experiments on catapults, force and pendulums. Besides having fun, our goal is to encourage boys and girls to explore the sciences - and to increase their interest and excitement with this spring's Buckingham Science Fair being held April 19th @ 6:30PM! NAESP's Report to Parents: Science Fun for Kids - supports our efforts and offers exciting ways to keep "Science Alive" with our students!
"There is no school subject quite as ripe for family fun as science. And it’s an area where children need extra enrichment now, more than ever, because the national No Child Left Behind initiative is causing schools to focus more intently on math and reading and spend less classroom time on science. That’s where you can make a big difference in your child’s learning, and have a great time doing it. Check out these terrific resources."
**Please Note - Most website links are still active in the article, but all connect to ways that will help your kids explore the sciences!

Important Announcements
The African Library Project - Changing Lives Book-By-Book!
Buckingham has supported this same village for several initiatives including a school-house and public restroom. This year, we began our African library Project kicking-off "Dr. Seuss's Birthday" on March 2nd. In the celebration of reading this year, Buckingham is working with other schools across the District in raising funds and collecting books to support a remote village. Through our Grade-Level Coin Challenge, Pretzel Sales and the Book Collection at the Scholastic Book Fair, Buckingham was able to raise almost $1800 and collected almost 1,700 books! Buckingham's 4th Grade won the Grand-Prize for having the highest end-total; and the 3rd Grade won Consolation-Prize for donating the most coins! Everyone did an incredible job with such close results!
Our collective service to our local community and world is incredible! Thanks to everyone who was able to contribute in some way.

SPRING PORTFOLIO CONFERENCES
The CB Community is very fortunate to have the opportunity for parent, teacher, and student conferences twice a year. These conversations allow us the time to celebrate our students' strengths and goals. In mid-April - our students, teachers and parents will meet to discuss your child's progress towards their goals established during the first marking period.
Our teachers continue to work diligently to provide students with the best daily instructional practices in order to meet the needs of all children. We, as a staff, are excited to take the time to celebrate your child's successes and encourage them with their goals. We look forward to seeing you during conferences. As a reminder, students are to attend the conference with parents.
Please be sure to schedule a conference on your teacher's Sign-Up Genius Page which was emailed to you on March 13th.
