The Kras Chronicles
Week of June 1st-4th
Classroom Happenings
Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is hard to believe that this is my last newsletter of the school year! The year has just flown right by! Thank you for all of your help throughout the school year; it has been a pleasure getting to know you and your child!
As we wrap up the school year, I wanted to pass along a few reminders.
Our AR celebration will be occurring on Monday; students who have achieved their AR goals (points and accuracy) will get to walk to Ben's Pretzels downtown. If your child is still trying to earn his/her goal, he/she will be able to take AR quizzes on Monday morning until 9:15 am.
Our Book Buddy Field Trip to Butterfly Park is taking place on Monday. We will leave Central at 10 am and return by 1 pm. When we get to the park, students will have a chance to play for awhile before we stop and eat lunch; after eating, students will have a little more time to play with their book buddy/buddies.
Thursday is a very special day for our students. Their hard work and dedication is going to be recognized at our year-end awards ceremony that starts at 9 am. Awards for participation and performance in music, gym, and art will be given; academic, attendance, and school service awards will also be given out. PTA members and parent volunteers will also be able to enjoy refreshments at 8:30 am for all of the hard work they have put into this school year. Thank you for all your dedication; you helped make this school year a big success! Our ceremony will wrap up with a very special presentation that was put together by our 5th grade teachers and students; it is their special way of saying farewell to Central.
The 5th grade summer activity packet will be coming home with your child this week. It is important that your child completes these activities over the summer in order to keep skills fresh in their minds; these activities will also introduce students to some of the topics that will be covered more in depth throughout 5th grade. Students who complete their summer packet will be able to participate in a celebration at the beginning of next school year.
Here is what to expect for the upcoming week:
Science:
We will go over the Life Science Chapter 1 Test that students took on Thursday. Students will also turn in their science books.
Social Studies:
We will discuss how the economy works; items that we will discuss include: needs and wants, supply and demand, & profits and expenses. Students are already familiar with these topics due to their participation in Junior Achievement. Students will turn in their social studies books.
Math:
We will be wrapping up our activities on data and measurement. Students will also help clean up our math tool-kits, so they are ready for next year's group of kiddos.
Reading:
We are continuing to practice our reader's theater scripts. Students will perform their play on Wednesday.
Writing:
We will wrap up our study of verbs by discussing subject-verb agreement. Students will complete a short group activity to practice.
I hope you all have a safe and wonderful summer!
