ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
Happy New Year and a new decade!
At CCS, 2020 brings opportunities for celebrations and innovation. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing details about the work we are doing with students, staff, our school, and our community. We hope you find these highlights informative and an opportunity to see your child(ren) in the center of all we do! We also hope that you will reach out if there are any ideas or areas of interest that you might want to help out with!
Celebrations and Innovations - Wellness -
- Our 5th-8th grade students have a weekly wellness block in which they self-select to participate in structured wellness-based instruction and activities as part of their health curriculum. This offers students a variety of opportunities to engage in interest-based learning that supports the development of lifelong wellness. While a small group of our educators took initial responsibility for these class blocks, there is a growing group of staff participating as leaders and instructors, offering opportunities such as yoga, personal fitness, knitting, healthy cooking, mindfulness, cooperative games, the science of happiness, trail time and more. We are excited to see how these opportunities grow!
- In our K-4 classrooms, many groups opened 2020 with reflection and/or intention-setting. For example, in third grade, students came up with “one word” to capture their hopes and intentions for the year (2020).
- Our K-2 students are rotating through YOUSkills this year, having two (six to seven-week) sessions each with Mr. Miller doing Making, Building & Designing, with Nurse Lauren Calkins learning about basic health and wellness, and with school counselor Betsy Lloyd learning about social-emotional skills and wellness.
Over the next few weeks, we look forward to sharing more celebrations and innovations at CCS with you, including the areas of equity, personalization, physical climate, technology and social-emotional learning!
Wishing you all a wonderful new year!
Kind Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra
