Quotes of George
"Guys like us on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don't belong no place. They come to a ranch an' work up a state and then they go to town and blow up their stake, and the first thing you know they're poundin' their tail on some other ranch. They ain't got anything to look ahead to. ''
"Aw. We can't think of a better description as friends than people who ' got kinda used to each other. "
" It's hard out there for a ranch hand. Steinbeck seems to be saying that the loneliness is even worse than the poverty; like Lennie and George, you can bear a lot more if you have a friend.''
George's Life story or Purpose in The Story
In the story George is a small man with a little temper. He is the only man that is really 'trusted' with Lennie, they are best friends. George has always been officially Lennie's protector, over watcher, guard, guardian and his watchdog. Overall Lennie does not change throughout the story, even though George says that he will protect Lennie in the middle closer to the end he and the other ranchers plan to kill Lennie because they (the other ranchers) feel that he is not wanted, stupid, and holding George back from the dream that he is trying to get to or accomplish. Even though George does not agree with this the other ranchers will find a way to change his mind. At the end of the movie George is on his final step to accomplishing his dream, the only thing that is in his way is Lennie and he needs too get rid of him(says the ranchers). George goes along with it and he finally kills Lennie and then completes or almost completes his dream.
Some pictures of George and his friends on the ranch
George and Lennie
"I wish I could put you in a cage with about a million mice an' let you have fun." His anger left him suddenly. He looked across the fire at Lennie's anguished face, and then he looked ashamedly at the flames. "
Lennie fighting with Slim
Slim had not moved. His calm eyes followed Lennie out of the door. "Jesus," he said. "He's jes' like a kid, ain't he."
"Sure, he's jes like a kid. There ain't no more harm in him than a kid neither, except he's so strong."
George with the mouse in his hand
"George is just trying to be nice to Lennie by offering him another mouse—but what kind of justice is offering up innocent mice as sacrificial petting victims?"
