Definiton of Hinduism

Hinduism: a major religious and cultural tradition of South Asia, developed from Vedic religion.


Hinduism originated in India, where it is a major religion in India now as well. Hinduism has no founder or founding date. It is also the oldest of the World's major religions and it is very complex. It has numerous sects. It started among the cultures of India and spread.

Major beliefs of Hinduism

Reincarnation:the belief the individual soul is reborn in a different form after death

Karma:the force generated by a person's actions that determines how the person will be reborn in the next life

Dharma: the divine law, the law requires that all people do their duty

Universe contains many heavens and hells: continually being reborn

Sacred Text- The Vedas

The Vedas consists of Hymns,prayers, and speculations composed in ancient Sanskrit.

The Rig Veda, Sam Veda, Yajur Veda, and Artharva Veda are the four great Vedic collections.

Together they make up one of the most significant and authoritative Hindu religious texts.
