TOYS FOR TOTS
Breakfast With Santa
What is breakfast with Santa?
Breakfast with Santa is a special event held each holiday season where families enjoy a breakfast buffet, and meet Santa and his elves! Guests are shuttled to the Rocky Coasts Gallery by a golf cart “sleigh” ride where they enjoy food and amazing sights as our sea lions and polar bear swim by. Guests can then enjoy the rest of the Zoo, including Santa’s Workshop at the Eagle’s Landing Pavilion, where our docents and interpreters give animal presentations, and elves assist with crafts for the whole family to enjoy.
What dates are available to volunteer?
Saturdays and Sundays, December 8th&9th, 15th&16th
· Guests have the option of three one-hour seating times each day: 8:30, 10 and 11:30 a.m.
What jobs could I volunteer for?
- 7:45 a.m. – 1:00p.m. Golf cart “sleigh” driver (must be at least 18 years old)
- 7:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Food assistants
- 7:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Elves, Rocky Coasts
- 7:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Elves, Eagle’s Landing Pavilion
- 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. Penguin mascot
Do I have to work at the specified times? Can I leave early or start late?
If you agree to volunteer you must commit to the shift times listed for your position.
Will I be outside?
It depends on which job you select. Golf cart “sleigh” drivers are outside for their shift; elves stationed in the Rocky Coasts Gallery will be helping with doors which means some periods outdoors; elves stationed in the Elf’s Workshop at the Eagle’s Landing Pavilion will be exposed to the outdoors, but the pavilion is heated. All volunteers should dress for the weather, with layers, and prepare to be asked to assist with outside activities.
Of note: We do not have a place for you to store your belongings.
Can I request to be indoors as much as possible?
You can request a position where outside time is limited, such as Food Assistant and Rocky Coasts Gallery Elves, and we will honor your request as long as volunteer slots are available. For positions with regular outdoor time, we will make every effort to give you time to warm up adequately.
What does each job do?
Golf cart “sleigh” drivers: “Sleigh” drivers shuttle guests to and from the Rocky Coasts Gallery and Elf’s Village at the Eagle’s Landing Pavilion.
Food Assistants: Set up breakfast items, assist guests with serving themselves breakfast, bus tables, provide additional assistance when and where necessary, including event clean-up in Rocky Coasts.
Elves (Rocky Coasts): Assist Santa with children (find out children’s names and whisper them to Santa), hand out goodie bags, assist with doors and seating, offer to help families with taking photos, etc. Elves are a very important part of Santa’s team, so it is very important to get in the spirit, join the fun and be jolly!
Elves (Elf’s Workshop, Pavilion): Assist guests with crafts, direct guests to docents and animal demonstrations, and offer to help families with taking photos, etc. Elves are a very important part of Santa’s team, so it is very important to get in the spirit, join the fun and be jolly!
If my friend/sibling/spouse/club and I want to volunteer together, can you put us in the same spot?
We will try to honor these requests as much as possible, but it depends on what volunteer slots are open on any given day. We cannot guarantee you will stay together. If you’d like to try to volunteer with your friend, each of you must let us know which day, shift, and position you want as soon as possible.

RAIHN (Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network)
RAIHN provides temporary shelter, meals and case management to homeless families. Local faith organizations host the families for a week at a time, providing them with an evening meal and a place to sleep, usually air mattresses in a Sunday school classroom. Many area shelters don’t allow men or boys, but RAIHN is able to keep families together. RAIHN's families can use: Arts and Crafts kits for 11-to-13-yr-olds, sports equipment (basketball/football, pump), warm socks (all kinds/sizes), boxed nonbreakable ornaments/garland. All items can be dropped off at 34 Meigs St., Rochester. Since RAIHN is temporary housing, the ages and number of kids in the program can change quite often, so their needs are always different. More information can be found at www.raihn.org or by calling 585-506-9050.
