LEARNER AGENCY IN 2020
At our school, Agency is having responsibility, power, ownership and control over yourself, to use your Learning Stars to create a productive and happy life - throughout your life.
At Toko School we are inquiring into moving our students from passive learners to active learners. This has been our focus for the past two years and will be again this year. We have been implementing learner Agency as a way to develop this. There are seven medals we are using to teach the learner agency skills. These medals are: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Titanium, Platinum, Ruby and Diamond.

This will be at the Stratford pools and we will be leaving school at approximately 9.45am with the event kicking off at 10.30am. Years 4 & 5 will swim in participation races only and Years 6, 7 & 8 will swim in either the competitive or participant category. The event will take most of the day and is expected to be completed by 1.30 in the afternoon. Children will return back to school on buses afterwards. Students will need to be wearing their Toko school uniform as well as warm clothes to get changed into. They will also need to take water and their lunch to the event. We are looking forward to a great event. If you are intending on taking your child home from swimming sports can you please let the school know. The buses are very costly.
We require four parent timekeepers to assist on the day. if you are able to help out please email: shelley.fuller@toko.school.nz
TOKO SCHOOL TRYATHLON
OnThursday the 5th of March we will be having our annual school tryathlon. Once again we will be utilising Wawiri road for the cycle leg. The event will be viewed, by parents, from the bank on the far end of the field parallel to Wawiri Road. The event starts at the Wawiri Road. All children will assemble on the bottom field and finishes at the cricket pitch. Please make sure that your bike or scooter is fully prepared for this event, checking that it is well serviced and that the brakes are in good working order. Bikes will need to be dropped at school on the bottom field, Ahuroa Road Entrance, on Friday morning. Gates will be open to assist you with this. All bikes need to be collected after school. If this is a problem please contact your child's classroom teacher. Children will need closed in shoes, a good working helmet and their swimming gear for this event.
For children new to our school we have a very small course set up for our 5 year olds. It’s all about having a go. They can bring a bike or a scooter. If you have any further questions please talk to Miss Mancer.
If your child does not have a bike to bring to school please contact your child's classroom teacher asap so we can make alternative arrangements.
The event order is as follows: Year 7 - 8, Year 5 - 6, Year 0 - 2, Year 3 - 4.
We run our event in the following order: Cycle, run, swim, run to the finish line.

TOKO & EASTERN DISTRICTS JUNIOR RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
MEETING 7PM TUESDAY MARCH 3rd @ TOKO DOMAIN
REGISTRATIONS DUE BY MARCH 16.
There will be a meeting at 7pm on Tuesday March 3rd, at the Toko Domain for children and parents involved in the 2020 Ferdie Rugby season with Toko & Eastern Districts Junior Rugby Football Club.
Bring the kids along for a run-around and a chat about what’s in store for 2020.
FERDIE RUGBY includes age-grades for every year:
· 7-aside “Rippa Rugby” for Under 7 below
· 10-aside tackle for Under 8 – Under 11
· 15-aside tackle for Under 12 – 13 (weight-restricted)
· 15-aside tackle (unrestricted weight)
Under 11 has changed from 15-aside to 10-aside this year.
Games are typically 10am on Saturday mornings. The season is Term 2, beginning on May 2 and running for 10 weekends to the end of Term 2, with the last game on July 4.
We can usually field teams in the 10-aside grades, but usually struggle to have the numbers for older grades. We will work with parents to make sure players are in a grade that suits them.
Children looking to play in a 15-aside grade (Under 12 and up) will need to register with Stratford Eltham Junior Rugby Football Club, or otherwise do some serious recruiting to get the numbers for a team.
Registrations for Toko are to be completed online at the following link: https://www.sporty.co.nz/tokorugbytaranaki/Junior-Rugby-Registration-1/tab1
