Davidson Family Newsletter
February 2022
Principal's Message
This month we are focused in the building on the character skill of communication. Our teachers are forming activities and lessons that teach and support students in being able to advocate for their own needs and share their ideas with others. We have a monthly student recognition donut party for two students from each class that have been referred by their teacher.
This month we are also focusing in more intently on literacy. Your child needs to be reading every night. We have wrapped up our reading screenings for winter and have identified kids who have shown great growth and those we have some concerns regarding the pace of their progress. If you are unsure how your kids are performing please reach out to your child's teacher. If you do not get a response, please reach out to me. Reading is the foundation for all learning so we want to make sure you have the information you need to support your students at home.
We will be inside most of this month for indoor recess. Please make sure your kids have clothing appropriate for the weather even waiting to walk with families, to load cars or load the bus can be very cold.
Lastly, if your child brings home an iPad please make sure it is returned the next day charged and ready to be used for learning.
Thank you!

Mrs. Williams Reading Corner
On Jan 18th Davidson students in grades K-2 were able to have a virtual author visit with Aaron Reynolds. He was lively, fun, and even gave our students a sneak peak of his newest book coming out in the fall Creepy Crayons. Author visits are a great way for our students to learn from experts and get excited about writing and reading. I am currently researching ideas for an author visit for our grades 3-5 later in the semester. If you ever have a connection with a children’s book author, please let me know at Jennifer.williams@nkcschools.org.
We are hosting our Scholastic book fair on Feb. 28th- March 4th. We will have a late-night encore event on Wednesday March 2nd from 5:00-6:30. Please bring your family to shop our book fair and explore what our amazing encore teachers do here at Davidson. Your support of our book fairs provides us the funding to bring in author visits for your students. Be on the lookout for fliers coming home in the next few weeks.
Snuggle up with your students and read a book during these cold winter months. 😊
