Going For The Gold
Mineral Wells ISD students and staff raised $1064.00 for childhood cancer research. How awesome is that? Thank you for all of those that supported this great cause!
Recess
It rained the day before, but we went out anyways. We had fun with hula hooping, frisbee throwing, and drawing with chalk.

Spelling Pattern This Week
For the week of September 18th- September 23rd the spelling pattern will follow the short u pattern. Students will also edit a sentence to include a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and punctuation at the end. Spelling test will be this Friday, September 23rd.

Sight Words
The most frequently used and repeated words in the English Language are known as sight words. Sight words are critical for reading because they usually cannot be sounded out or illustrated. Therefore students must show mastery on 'sight' when seeing a sight word.
Sight Words: he, was, that, she, on, they, but, at, with, we, because, of, like, has, no, are, or, if, can, said
What We're Learning This Week...
Reading
- Students will use their chunky monkey strategy to solve unknown words.
- Students will read to someone and use their coach cards.
- Students will identify alliteration in stories and create a three word sentence using alliteration.
- Students will demonstrate the three ways to read a book and choose one way to read to someone.
- Students will identify alliteration in stories and create a three word sentence using alliteration.
- Students will identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story and write the summary.
- Students will write a sentence with correct capitalization, spacing, and punctuation.
- Students will identify alliteration in text and create a three word sentence using alliteration.
- Students will identify words with the short u sound and create words that follow that pattern.
- Students will recognize and create a group of rhyming words.
- Students will compose and decompose numbers
- Students will subitize numbers and sets.
- Students will create a book that classifies objects by observable properties.
- Students will use illustrations to identify the changes in a material cause by heating/cooling
PTO Meeting
Please join the PTO meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 20th at 5:30pm in the cafeteria. They will be discussing our upcoming fundraiser Fun Fest and other volunteer opportunities. Hope to see you there!

- Thursday, September 22nd- Fire Drill at 10:05.
- Wednesday, September 28th- Nurse Screenings at Lamar for 1st grade.
- Saturday, October 1st- Palo Pinto State Park Star Party. This is a free event open to the public. Members of both the Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas and the Fort Worth Astronomical Society will be there with telescopes that you can use to view stars and constellations. Bring chairs, water, bug spray, and your own telescope if you would like. Exit I-20 at exit 361, go north on Hwy 16 four miles, turn West on FM 2372 for two miles and then follow the signs.
- Saturday, October 1st- Clark Gardens Marathon and 5k. The Clark Gardens mission is, "To inspire and demonstrate the many rich horticulture and nature-based possibilities of North Texas to tourists and residents alike." - Wednesday, October 5th- Nurse Screenings at Lamar for 1st Grade
- Saturday, October 8th- 37th Annual Crazy Water Festival. There will be live music at multiple stages all day, the Crazy Car Show, and a children's area for the kids. For more information, go to http://www.crazywaterfestival.org.
