The Black Cat

Fears in Story

The fear of loneliness and the fear of being judged is seen in the story The Black Cat when the narrorator felt like the cat was judging him. And also when the new cat came and followed around his wife.

Fears in Media

The fear of being lonely and judged is still relevant in today's media in Friday the 13th when Jason kills people because he is judged and feels lonely for looking different after his mom is killed.

Excerpts

1. "One night, returning home, much intoxicated, from one of my haunts about town, I fancied that the cat avoided my presence. I seized him; when, in his fright at my violence, he inflicted a slight wound upon my hand with his teeth." This shows that he felt lonely when it avoided him.

2. "I permitted it to do so; occasionally stooping and patting it as I proceeded. When it reached the house it domesticated itself at once, and became immediately a great favorite with my wife." This shows how he felt judged by the new cat and was lonely because the cat went to his wife instead of him.

This is the movie poster for the movie Friday the 13th and at the top it says "Welcome to Crystal Lake". Crystal Lake is where he killed a lot of campers after his mother was murdered right in front of him by a camp counselor at Camp Crystal Lake. After her murder he becomes lonelier than ever before because his mom was his only friend because he didn't look like the other kids.
