#ExcellenceIsWorthTheEffort
P - Problem Solve is one of our 4 school-wide expectations.
With this expectation we encourage our students to try to think of different ways to solve a problem by themselves or with others before asking an adult for help.

Modern Learning Survey (Important!)
We are once again partnering with BrightBytes, an educational research organization, to better understand our teaching and learning environments, both at school and from home. We’ll continue to utilize this information to help ensure we are providing the support and resources necessary for an equitable learning environment for all of our students. The BrightBytes initiative has helped us form a more complete picture of how learning is taking place and allowed us to create targeted initiatives to support our teachers and students.
We are reaching out to ask you to take part in the Modern Learning questionnaire. This is an annual initiative, and your participation is essential to help us form a more complete picture of our teaching and learning environment. Please know that all of your responses will remain anonymous to
protect your privacy. The questionnaire will take approximately 5 minutes to complete. The last day to complete this questionnaire is Friday, Nov. 19th.
Below is the URL to access our district survey landing page. Once there, you select who is taking the survey (Teachers, School Leadership, Students or Parents / Guardians) and then select your school from the drop down menu.
Thank you for taking part in this important initiative!

Potter Gray & BGISD Attendance Policy
Below is an outline of our school and district's attendance policy. Instructional hours at Potter Gray are from 8:00am-3:00pm. If your child gets to school late (after 8:00am) they are considered tardy.
To excuse absences or tardies we must receive a written note (examples: doctors note, hand written parent note, or an email). Once the note is received by the front office, the attendance code is changed within Infinite Campus from an unexcused absence/tardy to an excused absence/tardy. If a child is quarantined due to Covid, once the quarantine or positive case is confirmed, those absences are automatically adjusted and do not require a written note.
At weeks end, Mr. Brown prints attendance letters and mails them to the parents of students who have either 3, 5 or 7 unexcused absences/tardies. If you receive one of these letters please communicate with the front office to provide proper paperwork for the absences on record.
- Death or severe illness in the student’s immediate family;
- Illness of the student;
- Documented military leave/return of a parent or guardian;
- Other valid reasons as determined by the Principal, including trips qualifying as educational enhancement opportunities.
A student is allowed 5 days excused with parent notes and 7 days with doctor notes per school year. After 7 doctor notes have been used, the district medical excuse form must be submitted for excused absences and/or tardies. Parent and doctor notes must be turned in to the school within 72 hours of the student’s absence.
CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM: Missing more than 10% of the school year, or 17 days, for any reason, excused or unexcused. TRUANCY: A student who has been absent or tardy without a valid excuse for three or more days is considered truant. A student reported as a truant two or more times is a habitual truant. Students reaching the status of habitual truant can expect a home visit from a school district official. Continuing absences or tardies will result in referral to the court system.

With schools back in session, it’s more important than ever for all students to have health care
coverage. KCHIP can help. The Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program provides free health insurance for anyone under 19 in low-to-moderately-low-income households. So, if your child (or a child you know) needs health care coverage, please look into KCHIP. It covers practically everything. And it’s free. To learn about qualifications and how to apply, simply go to kynect.ky.gov/kchip or call (877) 524-4718.
