Bear Creek Elementary Special Areas

April 19th, 2021

As Posted in Main Cub Hub: Remote Learners Special Area Schedule Change Beginning Wednesday, April 21st

Special Area Grade Level BLEND Pages will be updated Wednesday morning to reflect this change:

Special areas have collaborated to ensure that our remote students get connection and high levels of engagement during their zooms. Therefore, there may be some changes coming to WHAT DAY your student has music, art, and PE, but the time they have specials will remain the same. Remote students will receive communication about their specific changes from their classroom teachers.

A Message From Ms. Saenz

Hello cubs!

Happy April,

April is a month with lots to celebrate including Earth Day (4/22), National Poetry Month, and School Librarian Week.

In the library we will be sharing poems from poets all around the world! Poetry is one of my favorite genres, and I am excited to share this love with you all.

I invite you to join me on Thursday, April 29th for “Poem in Your Pocket Day”. Poem in Your Pocket Day is an international movement that encourages people to center poetry within their daily interactions. On P.I.Y.P. Day, select a poem, carry it with you, and share it with others at your school, libraries, bookstores, and at home.

I will be carrying a special poem in my pocket and would love to share my poem with you, and you share your poem with me!

If you need help finding a poem, come to the library! Our front display is in honor of National Poetry Month and we have many poetry books to choose from!

Also, please check out our Virtual Libraries Page on Blend! I have included four new libraries: Shel Silverstein (my favorite poet), Earth Day, Spring Readings, and Space! We now have a total 20 virtual libraries to read from!

Happy Reading!

A Message From Ms. Schultz

Hello Bear Creek Families!

At this point, all but a few classes have wrapped up our hand and foot work units. This week during PE all 3rd-5th grade students will complete their written assessment on Stress Management while our Kinder-2nd graders will practice some stress relief activities.

Student expectations, rubrics, learning resources, and previous lessons for current units are always posted on the grade level PE BLEND Pages.

Fourth quarter PE grades will come from:

  1. Participation
  2. Volleying (we didn't get the assessment in during the 3rd quarter, so that's how we started this nine weeks)
  3. Hand Dribble
  4. Foot Dribble
  5. Sleep / Stress Management

Beginning with Friday's lesson, Fitness and FitnessGram will be our focus for the next few weeks. I'll be sharing this schedule with 3rd-5th Graders this week, but my current plan for FitnessGram Assessment (which of course will probably change ;-) is posted below and available on 3rd-5th Grade BLEND Pages.

REMINDER: FitnessGram is NEVER a part of PE grades, just a fitness measurement. Per AISD, this year ONLY in person learner's results will be entered into the FitnessGram database. Remote learners will fully be a part of our lessons and will share their results with me, I just will not be putting them into the database. Click on the BCE FitnessGram Website button below for more information on FitnessGram.

Please continue to use the PE BLEND Courses as your first source of information regarding PE, and message me through Blend or email with any further questions. Each grade level PE BLEND Course is linked below.

Thank you for your continued support!
