Get Ready for Summer Reading!
Cue the upbeat music! Summer reading is my favorite thing! I look forward to titles I have stacked up or added to my list for "when I have a bit more time." Not that we ever have a lot more time, but with the change in schedule from the school year to summer school, it makes it easier to fit in pleasure reading. My summer reading is not made up of books I should read, but the books I want to read. It is full of new discoveries, award winners, cookbooks, crafting books, and anything else that catches my fancy. If we can get our kids excited about their summer reading it will be such a gift to them. Not only do they benefit academically in maintaining or even growing their skills as readers, but reading is also an activity that can sustain them for a lifetime! We just need to lead the way.
Here are a few tips to help make it fun!

Summer Reading with Scholastic
The teachers want to help you help your children to build their summer reading habit! This month students will learn how to log into Scholastic to log their reading minutes. They will be able to log minutes starting in May and continuing through the beginning of September. As student log minutes they unlock awards on the Scholastic site. As the minutes build up, books will be donated to students in need. Join the challenge and your child can help build minutes with students all over the country! Check out the information for parents here. https://www.scholastic.com/summer/parents-home/
