Motivating GT Learners

Big Ideas

GT learners do not view school experiences as meaningful.

-Adults can model curiosity.

-Tie learner interests to school work and projects.

Learners who believe skills are not innate are more successful.

-Document learner growth so that they can follow their progress.

-Learners know that challenges help improve their skills.

-Avoid giving general compliments.

Share positive work experiences with learners.

-Adults should share positive work experiences so that learners realize their effort is valued and meaningful.

-Give learners opportunities to interact with role models.


1. How can I motivate GT learners without making them self conscious about their learning?

2. How can I integrate more self selected learning topics into my classroom?


I will give an interest survey to my learners. I will use their topics of interest to develop writing topics for our literacy stations.
