Lexington ISD Weekly Board Report
Aug 18, 2023
Notes From This Week:
- SMOOTH FIRST DAY - Our teachers, administrators, and support staff put in a great deal of work and planning to ensure a smooth start to the school year. I've spoken with several employees who have many years in education and believe that our first day this year was the smoothest they've ever experienced. I would have to agree with them. We have an outstanding team and they made sure we were prepared to make the transition back to school as easy as possible for our students and parents.
- FIRST RATING - We have once again achieved a Superior FIRST rating for our district financial systems and processes. Stephanie will fill you in during the superintendent's report at Monday's Board meeting.
- STAAR/EOC SCORES - Scores are in and we are pleased with our students' performance, especially given the redesign of the STAAR/EOC exams that made them more challenging. Christiana will give a full report to the Board on Monday night.
- REGULAR AUGUST BOARD MEETING - The August meeting will be held this Monday, the 21st. We have placed consideration and approval of the 2023-2024 fiscal year budget, so the meeting will begin with a required public hearing at 6:25. The regular meeting will begin at 6:30 or following the public hearing.
- MONDAY'S AGENDA - The agenda for Monday night will include changing the district's meal charging policy to be capped at a set number of charged meals rather than a dollar amount. The Board will also consider a school Guardian program to comply with House Bill 3 requirements. An amended Student Code of Conduct is on the agenda with required language pertaining to the school Guardian program. The Board will only be asked to approve the amended SCC if the Guardian program is approved first.
- SPECIAL CALLED MEETING - It is still necessary to have a special called meeting on September 30th at 5:00 PM to approve a few end-of-year budget amendments to the 2022-23 budget. Timelines do not allow approval of these amendments before that date. Looking ahead, we will adopt our new year tax rate at the regular September Board meeting.
- BOND SURVEY DATA - Two documents are attached below. The first contains a breakdown of all responses to the survey sent out by the Corgan team last week. The second document is a breakdown of the open-ended responses, showing which topics were most often mentioned. I encourage you to read these with the mindset of understanding perceptions and understanding that these perceptions represent our reality as we go out for another try at the bond proposal.
Have a great weekend - GO EAGLES!
