Paris is the capital and most populous and cosmopolitan city of France. Situated in the north of the country and surrounded by the Seine River. The City of Paris has an area of 105 square kilometers. It’s got approximately two million inhabitants.
The climate of Paris is moderated due to the Seine River. The average temperature of Paris is about 11, raising until 20°C in summer and 5ºC in winter.
According to history the name of Paris comes from the Parisii, a Gallic town that dominated the region when Julio Cesar’s troops occupied the site. It is believed that these men founded the city between 250 B.C. and 200 B.C. When the Romans took it they changed the name to Lutece and began to rebuild on the left bank of the Seine River. From that time the city was known as Parisii or Paris.
Paris has lots of monuments and things to see. Paris is famous for the Eiffel Tower. It is also famous for its museums and its cathedral.
In Paris you can see The Louvre Museum, the Arc of Triumph, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, the Orsay Museum, the Holy Chapel, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and many other important monuments. Paris has also got many shops of all types, like the Big Stores and the Carrousel du Louvre, a well known shopping centre. You can also find Disneyland Paris, which is an interesting amusement park for a good family vacation.
There are lots of things to do in Paris. You can walk along the River Seine and visit some of the colored markets. You can also hear some street performer’s concert or picnicking in the Luxembourg Gardens.
Paris economy is extremely diverse and has not adopted a specialization within the global economy. The main industry is tourism. Tourists normally visit the most important monuments of Paris, try the typical foods such as croissants, crepes, wine and many others delicious meals.
